I am using 18mg nicotine liquid right now at 80pg/20vg. It is keeping me off cigarettes. I am using a nautilus tank set on 3.8 volts on my little second hand Provari. I am going to be switching to Kayfun shortly.

I see many member saying they "had" to cut down nicotine with different tanks and devices. How do you know when to cut nicotine levels? Do you get sick, vomit, headaches, what happens? How is a new person supposed to know when nicotine levels should be cut down? The only thing I have noticed so far is that I am not sleeping as well and not getting tired at night like I should be.

Thank you for any advice. I know that I can't be the only person who has this question.

You will know because it will physically hurt to vape 18mg. Unless you enjoy feeling the immediate pain, you will drop your nicotine if you start lung hitting RDAs with high watts...

ETA: If you plan on continuing with the ProVari, then you don't need to worry about it.

I was on 24mg for 8 months. I started getting a constant headache and dizzy from vaping. Went down to 18 for the next 6 months. Headaches and little fuzzy headed again and dropped down to 12mg where I still am now. Want to make another drop to 6mg in a month or two. Smoked 42 years so I am no hurry to drop down to zero. Still have 40 years to get to zero. LOL CHEERS!

When I moved from clearos to drippers I had to drop my nicotine considerably. I knew in that case because vaping hurt and just sucked. One puff was enough to confirm that.

The first time I vaped, I went from 24mg and then immediately to 12mg (now dripping) with an eventual drop to 9mg because my ADV was made in that amount exclusively.

I tried and failed several times after falling off the wagon. Just couldn't seem to enjoy it again. Coming off a year of smoking the strongest cigarettes available to me, I tested a theory and bought 6mg juice. Vaping was pleasant again and I was instantly off the smokes completely. I now bounce around 6mg to 0mg throughout the day.

TL;DR: Sometimes your equipment forces your hand. Otherwise just go slow and find your sweet spot.

You'll know, don't worry about that. As you move up both in power, bigger coils that wick better and and different designed attys you'll draw more vapor and nic per hit which will result in you feeling the nic hit your throat more and depending on how frequently you hit it physical effects as well, light headed, nausea, etc.

I've dropped my level each time I went went with a better topper. The biggest drop I've had was from 18 to 6 when I started using the Kayfun and now there are times when I'm finding that to be to much so I'm dropping to 3 as soon as my current supply runs out.

Hi @TraderX, I had an issue with not sleeping as well for a time after I started vape. My solution was to get some juice with a lower nicotine level and vape it in the hour (s) before bed. Worked like a charm for me. Nicotine is a stimulant.

As to cutting down, headaches, stomach ache, and dizzyness, are symptoms of too high a nicotine level. If you're switching to a kayfun you'll liable experience these when you move to a lower ohm coil. The better the delivery device, the more juice consumed and the more nicotine absorbed. Most people cut their nicotine level in half or more (6mg is the usual high level for nic in sub ohm tanks) when they get into sub ohms.

As to when to lower the nic, I did mine gradual over the last 5 months to get to the 3 and under I now use. My goal is to get to where I "never" have the nic itch again when I am someplace I can't vape.

Rather than figuring how much to cut your nicotine, figure how much keeps you happy and off of smoking cigarettes.

Hiccups were always the sign for me of too much nic, even when I was trying nic gum or lozenges. I've now cut down to 15-18mg, with some occasional 12 mg mixed in if I feel like chain vaping. My highest usage was 36 mg, starting out, and the cutting down to current levels has taken years, and I'm in no hurry to cut further.

I've been vaping for about 16 1/2 months, and I've never dropped; in the first 6 months, I increased 3 times, to reach my current level of 10mg, which seems to work just fine for me. If it started giving me headspins or nausea, then I'd have to decrease, but otherwise, why worry about it. When I first started using the Magma RDA, rather than the Kayfuns I regularly use, I'd sometimes get a bit dizzy, but all I really needed to do was lower the wattage 1w, from 10w to 9w, and the slight dizziness eased. Also if I put a slightly-higher resistance coil in the Magma, like 1.8 or 2 ohms instead of 1.5, that would take care of it too.

I'm just into week 3. It's just flown by non-analogue wise. I decreased today from 18mg (probably using about 5ml a day) to 11mg today. I figure as I like to puff away almost constantly, then I may as well do it on a lower dosage (now if I was smoking analogues, I never ever chain-smoked, apart from maybe 2 on the bounce). Already I've seen a difference in that I don't feel as dried out and my stomach isn't so bad. I just noticed I'd emptied my cart just now, in about 6 hours. A cart of 18mg, would it have lasted longer? Well, I don't have a vast amount of history here, but I was emptying a cart in about the same time, maybe less.

I'm on a simple e-go right now.

If you plan on dripping or any type of high wattage Definitely keep your nautalius tank around... What i do is i vape 3mg on my atlantis. and i have a nautilus mini that i keep with me that i fill with anywhere between 6-11 mg (11 is usually to high for me now). That way i just switch back and forth throughout the day. Not only can u switch for a nic fit, but also i have found sub ohm vaping to not be enjoyable as an all day long vape, sometimes its just too much and its nice to switch it up.

Good luck

In my case I noticed heart palpitations and could "feel" my blood pressure rising. I was at 18mg and changed to 12mg about 6 months ago. Starting to get the palpitations again, so I think it's getting close to the time I start lowering my nic. Problem is I have a boatload of juice at 12mg, I have a lot of it on the PIF sample swap if anyone wants to trade some juices ;)

Same. I sleep a lot better now after a few nights of constant waking, a bit like with the patches. One night of bad dreams but my head wasn't in the best place that day. We dream where we are when we fall asleep and all. Nic just enhanced it. I learned nothing from that dream that I didn't already know. Lol.

First few days I was probably over doing it. I was a little spaced, in a wide-awake after hours way. Could have been the caffeine though. It took me a few days to make the connection.

I must admit I've never had any adverse effects from vaping at any nic level from 24mg, which is what I started at, down to my current level of 6. At the weekends I practically chain vape from Friday afternoon through to Monday morning and even when I was using 24, I never felt the headaches and nausea that a lot of people experience, which is fortunate. Owningtheday mentioned caffine, get pounding headaches if I don't get enough of that stuff, addicted to that as well

uh I bought a dripper and thought I would choke to death when I tried to vape it at 12 mg dropped it down to 3 with max vg and it was a flavourful treat just bought a kanger sub tank it has the stock 0.5 coil in it I had to put 8 mg nic and even still I am not inhaling the flavour seems nice but a little too warm even at 16 watts may drop nic to 6 and see

I don't think there is any correct answer I suspect you will know if you need to lower your nic and I suspect some do it just to see if they can:)

With all the mentions of dripping and sub-ohm style vaping it's important to note....

Vaping 3 mL of 12mg strength juice a day is exactly the same as 12 mL of 3mg strength juice, the total nicotine ingested is the same, no reduction at all. To "cut back" nicotine usage requires the actual total nic to be reduced...:)

I've been a little over 10 months since my last cig. I started at 24mg and I'm down to usually 3ng. I drip and use a subtank mini, sometimes around 0.5 ohm and sometimes 1.2 - 1.5 ohm ( and I don't think sub-ohming really makes a difference, it's the watts that count and I vape about 14W on my Provari and usually 30W on my box mods)

I'm very comfortable there, but also chain vaping all my waking hours. I'm toying with the idea of increasing my nic, to somewhere between 6-10mg, to try to vape a bit less.
