How do you outdoorsy people not destroy your mods?

I'm not as hard on my mods as you are dirky, but if I was and I wanted to take a mod with me, I would rally consider this; Tmodcustoms Bottom Feeder Mods. Here's a video of the mod being hit with a shotgun round and vaped right afterwards. You would just need to take the atty off and pouch the two parts. Can't think of anything any tougher and it could come in handy if you ever need a hammer :)

I was thinking about outdoor use myself, given that spring's just around the corner. Since they don't sell blus or any similar products 'round these parts, I'm stuck with either packing rolling tobacco and some papers for the longer trips,or risking running out of nicotine (the horror!) or breaking my MVP20 (which probably would be fine given that I'm paranoid about any elec's I bring with me but...).

This is actually one of the reasons why I'm starting to eye mech mods. I figure if I'm out on a longer hike (days), I can just pack up a few extra batteries and store them in a waterproof container.

I work construction (stone mason), and beat the crap out of everything. I've brought a lot of different set ups to work and my advice would be to get a raw tumbled aluminum REO GRAND. I've been taking my REO with me to work for over a year and it really does take a licking. If you don't want to scratch something, don't bring it out doors.

I do a lot of hiking rafting snowboarding and anything else i can think of and work outdoors in all weather conditions, 90% of the time in or near water so regulated mods don't work well with my lifestyle I use mechanicals only. With a mechanical I just dry it off replace some wicking and battery and i'm going again.

Do you take off the atty when needed and what gear are you actually using?

My mod and atty are made of Titanium. Even if I feel off Mt. Everest and was frozen on a block of ice for 10,000 years and then there was an nuclear explosion directly over my body instantly vaporizing everything else, they would still find my mod in the rubble. It would probably need some new juice and battery.

Couple good points in this thread. :D
Certainly, those activities might cause trouble - but if you WANT to, you can get stuff that will withstand some abuse.
While I baby my gear, I happen to own 2 devices that I'm confident would still vape after banging against some rocks: a Provari and a Reo.
I tend to use a glass tank on the 'Vari, so that's the weak point. In fact, on either device, I think the atomizer/tank connection point is the only real risk - the body of either one could probably be used in a pinch to hammer in some pitons. Maybe just get a good carry case?

I get the idea. I cave and I'm not sure if I can think of a more rugged or tough-on-gear pursuit, so I definitely know the threat "outdoorsy" has for your gear. I'm not gonna mention the world of crush proof/water proof boxes. That's been done to death so far, but as a first option they pay for themselves in saved gear and batteries. There are a few things that you can do to help your equip survive the trials of the trail.

I don't take electronics. My outdoors vapes are all mechanical mods. Real bruisery, beyond thunder dome types. They have few moving parts and are more resilient and dependable than any vv/vw I could name. The only real enemy of mech's is water (short your battery maybe) but they will work like the day they were made once they're dried out. Plus, if you get a clone, no need to risk your high-end work-of-art mod in the outdoors.
Also, it's a big stainless tube - literally dozens of outdoor uses. Pound tent stakes - no problem. Crush stinging ants - Easily. Start a rescue fire - Fire up the RDA. Make a telescope - Just need some glasses. Crush fresh mint for a trail mojito - Bottom's up. Easy defense against mountain lions - eh, probably not this one...

Anyway:
Pack everything separately, and then together... Pack spare batteries in battery carriers, juice in leak proof bags (aloksak), Mod and RDA in aloksak, etc... and then all of that goes into a waterproof, crushproof box of the appropriate size.

Carry your mod disassembled from the tank/rda, and if you do carry an electronic mod, make sure it's "off". Last thing you need when you're far from help is an injury from not being safe with your equip.

These basic ideas have seen me through many, many hours of crawling through 3" of mud and bat-crap, survived being totally submerged to around 60', and days and days of jet skiing between islands down here. Plus, I regularly (3-4 times a week) use the rope treadmill I have in my yard to practice rope-work and I haven't had any problems yet. For that I usually just use a VapeSox hanging off my harness.

Ha! Much respect to ginny005 for the mech-approach.

RESPECT!

What part of WBGVa are you from? I've a significant amount of time over in the eastern hills; particularly Pendleton, Randolph, Pocahontas, Greenbrier and Monroe.

Forgive me but o did not read through the thread so of this is repetitive I apologize.
That said the provari, are pretty indestructible. Nothing is completely but they take a beating. I don't use them so much anymore, but if I were to be in a harsh environment I would grab it weld before my DNAs. In fact I ran over mine twice with my truck... it still works just fine.
