Hi all, first post here.

I am about to give up the old nasty smokes and switch to vaping, but I have a question.

There is plenty of info here and on the web about how ecigs work, the mechanical side of vaping, but what I don't get is how you actually vape. What I mean is, just now, I sit and have a full cigarette, maybe with a coffee or whatever. When you are vaping, do you still vape like a cigarette, ie for 5 minutes every hour or so, then stop till the next one, or do you keep your pv next to you and just have a couple of draws on it regularly?

I hope you all get what I'm trying to ask, but maybe some of you could let me know how you do it!

Thanks, great forum. Has helped so much in my learning and making the choice to switch.

Welcome to the Forum! It's a great place, lots of information and support ... fun, too!

I find that taking a draw on an e-cig/PV takes just a little bit longer than taking a drag on a cigarette. With cigarettes, mine used to sit burning away in an ashtray and I'd pick it up every couple of minutes and take a quick drag on it. Or, I'd take short drags on it while out on a smoke break when working, things like that.

Now, I keep my PV handy next to my computer and I'll pause and take a couple of draws on it every few minutes or so. Sometimes I chain-vape when driving, or watching TV with coffee, etc. I probably drag on it about as often as I took a puff on a cig, but the good news is that my PV isn't sitting there burning up in between times :)

So I'd say that really it's whatever a person feels most comfortable with, which can vary depending on what you're doing.

I would smoke more when online gaming, so I got a pass thru...felt like a cig but the tether bugged. But yea, I was one who needed a cig like to make the transition, so that's how I vaped.

When I went from an auto stick to a manual stick, I was probably a vaper then cause that led to mods (must be the change in hand position or something mental like that) so, now PV's of different variations and away she goes....

My routine of smoking is about the same but my nic is pretty low now...If I get the craving I hit my wife's 18mg cardo's but that's not very often...

I do keep some 12mg around too, helps if I'm stressing..

At first I vaped constantly a couple of puffs a minute. Eventually it got to be 4 or 5 puffs and leave it alone for 5 to 20 minutes. I decreased my nicotine from 18 to 12. My vaping went up again. When it goes down again I decrease my nicotine down to 6.
Vape as often and as much as you need to. Don't worry about how much at first. Most of us vaped constantly at first.

Welcome to the forums.

That is a good question and one that I though about when I used to have to take my vaping outside at work (now it's kind of a non issues). I just sort of vape when and how I feel like it. Now when I first started V4L gave me recombined vaping instructions in one of my starter kits. It said to take about 10-15 hits every half hour or hour to help balance the nice levels since vaping hits you differently then smoking and you might find it harder to fight the cravings till you get yourself used to the new way you are getting nic.

Best advice I can really give you is vape till you are happy. Depending on what and how often you smoked you might need to play with the nic levels a bit to find an good balance point. I find 18 a good place to start and then move up or down depending on how you feel. Also don't feel bad if you have to up. I vape 12 and my Lady vapes 24 and 36 it's all about finding a comfortable place for you.

Vape on and I hope this helps.

I bounce back and forth with chain vaping or just a few puffs here and there. When I was making the transition, I, too, wondered if it be like the timing of a cigarette. With a full tank or carto, there's no real end in sight (except for the tank running dry of course). So, vape until you're satisfied. As you get into it, you'll play around with nic levels to find what works. I did find that dripping is a lot like the timing of a cigarette. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

I started vaping on Mother's Day of this year, gift from my son. I threw my cigarettes away and have been vaping since. Your question was, "how do you vape?" I have triggers such as morning coffee, phones conversations and driving. That's when I notice I chain vape as I did with the light and die cigarettes. The rest of the time I vape is much like before, every hour or so I take 4 to 6 hits and I'm good for awhile. I hope this answered your question.

I agree with the previous comments. Your experience will vary slightly, but whatever frequency satisfies your craving will work best for you as an individual. Some people chain vape as some people chain smoke. Some people people vape more than they smoked, or vice versa.

The nice thing about vaping is you can adjust your nicotine strength by the e-liquid you choose. Most start out around 18 - 24 mg for a 1 ppd smoker. You can adjust that by increasing or decreasing the nic strength by having different juices with different nic strengths until you discover which is best for you. Cigarettes didn't really offer that wide of a choice.

You can adjust the "heat" of the vapor by using different resistance (ohm rating) of the different juice delivery devices used on top of the batteries. LR (low resistance) will provide a warmer vapor. SR (standard resistance) will provide a cooler or smoother vape.

Then you have the battery devices that are variable voltage/variable wattage. You can adjust your voltage to the specific flavor that you are using. Not all juices taste best at a fixed, single voltage. The flavor can be enhanced by raising or lowering the heat.

It's not necessary to inhale the vapor to absorb the nicotine. Nearly all of it is absorbed in the mouth and nose. Probably the best techique to use is to mimic sucking on a straw in a thick milkshake. A slow deliberate draw into the mouth and hold temporarily. Then either inhale into the lungs, or alternatively exhale through both the mouth and nose. Exhaling vapor through the nose can also help you enjoy your flavors more, as our taste buds have been damaged from years of smoking.

On a side note: You won't find an e-liquid flavor that tastes like a particular cigarette brand, or any cigarette for that matter. It's impossible to recreate the taste of burning dried tobacco leaves and smoke. You will see flavors advertised as "tobacco", but they likely will not come close to what you are looking for. I suggest finding a flavor, any flavor, that you find appealing. Once you have successfully quit smoking, you'll wonder why you liked the taste of cigarettes for all of those years.

Some people chain vape and others do it occasionally

I don't really get cravings except in the morning, rest of the day I keep my PV with me "just in case" I want a vape and find myself vaping every 10-15 min but big drags to get my nic cravings under control

Then I :rickroll: until the next vape :)

I chain vape for random amounts of time, then forget all about it for random amounts of time. At this point, it's pretty much how i used to smoke, except that i used to do that much more desperately (and a bit frantically). Not sure how my actual nicotine intake compares from then to now though.
