Decided to post this here since I don't really post anywhere else on ecf.
Cleaning with vodka and rinsing with water didn't work for me in the past.

My atty started to taste burned and I would get no vapor from it even tho the atty was heating up. i decided the pull the wicks out cause really there was nothing to lose. I was just going to toss it anyways. They were difficult to remove and they were black and nasty. I rubbed the little string between my fingers and decided to smell it. Smelled burnt!

Dripped some royal raspberry (from MFS!) and puffed... nothing. Still burnt taste with no vapor. Tried it again after 5 minutes and it was working amazing. It is probably vaping better right now with delicious raspberry taste than it used to vape in its prime :)

I found this video after I pulled the wick out

When I first started using my 510, I kept getting pieces of the cart filter fiber on the atty which would burn and make all juice taste foul. So I started to check my atty's with a tweezer and I would pull out anything that looked like a fiber.

I wound up pulling out a big wad of white thread at one point, and thought I had ruined the atomizer. I didn't know what it was at the time, but I didn't think it was a good idea to be pulling it out. 8-o

My atty wound up working fine without it.

Hey, that's the same thing I did in the video, except I waited until my atty lost it's performance. It's true, those supplemental wicks under the bridge will clog an atty after a while. Happened to mine in less than a week. I'm a heavy vaper using a modified power supply, so it's important to me that those fibers aren't there. However, I do like how fast and even those fibers wick the element from the cart when you use it for the first time, so I wait until the atty gets clogged, then I take them out.

It's really not that hard to do on a used atty either, just takes some patience. I always keep my attys wet, so it's not a big problem for me. It does help to warm up the atty right before you pull them though, which helps to loosen them up from the carbon build up on the element. If you can't pull them with a gentle pull, then it's not time to do it yet. Continue soaking the atty with e-juice or PG and try again later.

I did have one that wouldn't turn loose out of a pack of 5. I wound up soaking the entire atty in alcohol and shaked it on a document jogger for 15 minutes. The fibers came right out after that.
