Hi guys. Maybe this question has been asked/answered before but; What is the cheapest rta to buy? Just for nights out. Been looking at the protanks. How long could I rebuild those coils for (or other such devices)? I love rebuilding and don't want to make a habit of buying premades again. Any suggestions would be great. Cheers

Protank is NOT a rebuildable. Even if there are many, I was one, who build them.

How long?? Well I guess that depends on when you plan to die. or if the Government bans access to materials.

Look at Fastech, plenty of Rebuildable tanks and drippers for less than $10. I suggest a Kayfun to start or Orchid. Kayfun for single coil and the orchid for dual.

But it really comes down to the style and type of Vape you are after. And the device you are driving the atomizer with.

the protanks are not rebuildable, but the subtank comes with a rebuildable head.

you can rebuild forever; you have to rewick a lot more often (10x+ depending on wire thickness) than actually recoil

What?? What do you mean Protanks aren't rebuildable? They're not MARKETED as rebuildable cuz Kanger wants to sell coils. I recently discovered the Evod (same coil) and with very slight modification it has become my favorite tank. Made a lung hitter out of me. Only thing lacking is capacity. I've ordered two T3XL with 5 ml capacity to cover that. The Evod has pushed my Squape to the shelf and my eGrip w/RBA will be in the shelf too once the T3XLs get here.

Ok cheers guys. I didn't make myself clear. I know they're not sold as rebuildable. I have many rba's, like 15. I am more than comfortable with rebuilding but its just that losing my cheapest £60.00 rig doesn't really compare to losing a 50p cigarette. I was just wondering is all. Need something not so valuable with me on a night out. My subbox (dodgy spelling) and lemo is the cheapest I've got at the mo. Think it was like 40 and 20.

Been rebuilding ProTank 2 coils with 30 gauge Kanthal and cellu cotten for the past 20 months....using the same "housing" over and over. Did buy more rubber insulators as eventually they do get brittle. Not only use these coils in the ProTanks and Davides but in my SubTank minis as well. :)

So you think its safe and fine to rebuild protank coils? How long can you go for. Forever? @Foggy Road
Definitely don't see any safety issues with simply rebuilding them. Longevity? I've just recently discovered them but assume you can rebuild until you accidentally destroy the rubber grommet. And even that can he substituted.

Where did you find the insulators?

I usually rebuild them with 9 wraps at 30 gauge ( usually right around 2 ohms)
and wick with cotton thru the coil and silica wick on top of the coil.
Can be rebuilt many many times and eventually the rubber grommet will rip.
The rubber grommets are good for higher ohms and the silicone ones are better for lower ohm builds.
Rubber ones are easier to work with.
Heck, I've even put a small Clapton in there ( declaptop the legs).

I rebuilt my Protank 3's to 1.5-2ohm single vertical coil with cotton wick. Got new insulators and other parts from Lightning Vapes. Now, I do buy coils for the Wife and her Single coil protank clone. But that's more a self preservation step.. Rather her be made at the coil company than me when a failure happens. When I used that atty, I did the same build as I used for the dual coil heads, vertical 1.8-2ohm. I used 32-29awg single wrap, parallel and twisted wires.
BUT when I upgraded from the EGO batteries, got Mech Mod. I also switched to a real RBA, the Kayfun, then a couple geni tanks and back to Kayfun. Now I split time between a dripper on a Squonkbox and the Kayfuns or Sat22 on the Mech.

ROFL. Protank head is one of the easiest rebuilds. 30 or 32awg wire, 1/16th inch drill bit, little bit of cotton, pair of tweezers/needle nose pliers, just a couple press fittings and a rubber/silicon insulator. 5 minute rebuild and way outperforms a factory head. The Protank3/Aerotank heads are a bit trickier but manageable. Just have to know what you are doing.

@OP
Eventually rebuilding the protank heads, the rubber/silicon grommets that insulate the positive and negative leads from each other do eventually tear, get brittle and other such wear and tear. Lightning Vapes carries these in stock, so are readily availabe.

However, you might look into an actual RTA, bit easier to manage, and more liquid capacity, especially for out and about, Kayfun Lite, Kayfun Lite Plus V2, Russian 91%, even a Taifun GT V1 is better than the Protank and rebuilding them all the time.
