How long did you wait to try DIY mixing

Not very long, I was fiddling with it two months in and exclusively DIY by four months in.

What's throwing you?

Some general tips are not to try any really complex recipes first thing, and make small amounts at any one time.

It took me a few weeks to determine that I really couldn't tolerate any sweet notes in my liquids at all, they nauseated me. Write down each recipe you create or try out and why you liked it or didn't like it. In my case, I isolated the flavor types I did and didn't care for, and then worked with those. It took a bit, but I created a three-note flavor that works well for me.

I made a few single flavor 10ml batches, I should have said before but I'm doing 0% nicotine to make up for the loss in throat hit I add 1-3 drops of everclear and it works but none of my flavors are coming out good there just off I can't tell what it is.

I personally haven't done DIY, but I did look into it. Have you tried using the online calculators that tell you the amounts you should use to mix?

Plus steeping. Some flavors just have to be steeped.

Instead of PGA (Everclear), maybe try a drop of menthol flavoring instead? It reproduces the throat hit, brightens flavors, and gives a nice mouth tingle.

Don't use if you hate menthol, of course, although a tiny bit can enhance a flavor without being a flavor itself.

I jumped in early but we are talking about back before there was thousands of vendors, and most were using mall kiosk cig-likes or blu's. So there wasn't too much to it like there is now. I was reading over on the diy section about all these add-on's and half were foriegn to me. My advice is pick a few flavors you like to vape. When attempting I would always make a small no nic batch in a contact case. this way I could figure out how much flavoring to add to 1ml of pg and vg. Then I would simply multiply that by the bottle size and know what i needed to make a larger batch. Everything went into a notebook so I can replicate easily.

I enjoy menthol and I should steep I just don't want to wait and have it still suck but I need to do it still lol thank you for the info also any suggestions on "scratch" flavors?

At first, 80% of what you make will seriously suck. That starts to drop once you isolate what you do and don't like!

For initial vapers, a wide selection of flavors is probably best, in small quantities. Something from the mint, spice, berry, fruit, chocolate, and so on arenas will be a good start.

In my case, I discovered a serious love of Cinnamon Red Hots by TFA. Menthol, as well. And strangely, milk chocolate as a richening note for the flavors, although I can't stand it by itself (but at half a percent, it's great).

Mix them all together at 5% menthol, 1% Cinnamon Red Hot, and 0.5% milk chocolate and you have my go-to vape.

Most people would find it too menthol and too flavorless--and too weak overall--but it fits my preferences perfectly.

I had been vaping for a week before i got my DIY supplies.. (i ordered them the second day, had to wait for them to get here.)

really, it's much more simple than it seems. flavor mixing, and measuring. Just use a good juice calculator. Start with small batches of 3 mL or less (good to have a dripper for taste testing I've found) and go crazy till you find what you like.

Some need "steeping" which is really more of an aging process.. normally the desert-y or creamy juices. I've found that letting juices that have mixes of strong flavors age a bit can help them come together into one flavor. Fruity stuff normally doesn't need as much time, I vape it right away honestly.

After a few sessions sitting down and mixing flavors it'll seem so much easier.

I waited about 6 months and then ordered the Beginner DIY kit from Nude Nicotine...not looking back. I still buy a few bottles of my favorite vendor juices as treat vapes but have mastered 3 really perfect ADV's of my own and treat myself to the magical treat vapes I crave and stay withing my available vape budget

I waited a few months before starting DIY. I tried a lot of different vendors to see what type of juices I liked the most and then bought some flavors based on my favorites. I would say 75% of the juice I vape now is DIY, but I still like to try out different vendors.

It's slow going at first but after a few months of trial and error you'll make a few juices you love and then you're hooked!

When I first started I found that I was chain vaping,, so I decided I could save a ton of money by making my own juices. I've been mixing my own for a while now and love my juices even more than the expensive high end juices.

It's not hard at all. Just go read everything you can on DIY and be careful with nicotine. Make small sample bottles before mixing larger bottles so you're not wasting. I mix 50ml bottles of my favorite juices but I know my recipes by heart. Newer recipes I start small though. Waste not want not. :).

Thank you for the advice. I only make 0% nic juice due to medical reasons, but I appreciate the warning :)

I wanted to mess with DIY while quitting the analogs...the "fiddling" with flavors kept me interested in vaping and occupied. So basically, I ordered some pre-made and a DIY kit about the same time. I started with DIY. Soon moved into simple modding too (electronics was/is a hobby).

Do what works for YOU. Not what worked for me. That said, I'd encourage you to investigate DIY e-juice. It's fun and a cost savings too. Besides, you know what's in it. This is important for people with food sensitivities/allergies, for example.
