How long do you steep with lid off?

I purchased some juice from MBV and one of them is sooooo delicious right out of the box. However, a few of them do not taste good after one day of having the lid off. I know that they need steeped for a week or so, from reading reviews, but how long with the lid off? Will the flavor evaporate if you leave the lid off too long? Or do I finish steeping with the lid on?

For me, I leave the cap off and shake juices that need the steeping for a few days. I don't want my juice to evaporate. There is probably a more accurate science to this but I leave the cap off for 2-4 days. Some juices I just leave the cap off for a day or two and throw in a drawer for about a week, shaking them when I get a chance. Im sure everyone has different methods though.

I am kind of disappointed in the peach. Right out of the box it was good but had a bit of a chemical taste. I tried it again after 1 day with the lid off and now it tastes just plain funny. I am hoping with more steeping it will get better but it seems it tasted better right out of the mail than it does now. Wish I could describe the funny taste but not sure what it tastes like. The other possibility is that since I found one I love, maybe now nothing will compare? LOL

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Silent Solution. Once I got a couple of flavors I knew I loved I just started to order them as soon as I knew I really liked them. That way they're steeped by the time I run out of another bottle. All of that shaking was driving me crazy.

I think I will be doing that with the Afternoon Delight. It is delicious!

Funny, I just got my first juices from MBV too, and 3 of 4 are pretty perfumey... I haven't really had to steep any juice that I bought from a local B&M, so I'm getting my first taste of that process. I'm assuming they'll be okay after I steep... and look forward to reading the advice on this thread... I didn't really plan ahead (rookie mistake) so I'll probably have to go local for a bottle or 2 while these age.

Hope it works out for you (and me, lol).

Most liquids containing alcohol should have the cap removed for evaporation, most other liquids don't require this step. For most just shake a few times a day, for about 1 week to 4 keep in a cool darker place.

This is a standard not an absolute, like taste steeping/ageing is subjective.

How do you know which ones have alcohol? The peach really smelled up my room while it had the lid off and Im hoping I didnt evaporate all of the good flavor out of it :( It just really tastes odd now. Which is why I am curious about how long to leave the lid off, or even if I really need to.

I don't want my juice to evaporate.

E-juices don't evaporate, at least if you don't artificially (aka "the crock pot steep") steep them. Steeping oxidizes the juice and brings out more flavor. If your juices have nicotine, it will darken with time.

What juices have alcohol in them? Reputable vendors only use PG, VG, flavorings, sweetners, and nicotine... that's it. Inhaling and/or ingesting certain alcohols can be dangerous if not fatal.

I steep each new bottle with the lids/caps off for as little as 5 days to as long as 2 weeks, depending on the size of the bottle and type of juice. Tobaccos usually need more time IMO, but steeping as a whole is what brings out flavor in a juice, especially if the vendor boasts about it being "lab fresh" or "mixed to order".

I take the caps off for one or two days, then cap them. I then shake them everyday for a week up to three weeks. Now I am really good at multi tasking so I take the bottles that are steeping and put them in my pocket, bra, socks crank up the stereo and dance, dance , dance. So I am having fun, shaking the bottles and getting a great work out, see multi tasking. Of course my husband thinks I am nuts but meh it's not the first time.

I'm going through the same learning process about steeping. I'll read a thread about various steeping procedures that different people use, and for different amounts of time, then read some other threads where people just got their juice in the mail that day and say they taste "great!" Or I'll watch a video where someone mixes their own DIY juice, gives it a good shake, then puts it in their rig and vapes it and says it's great. That really makes me wonder what's going on.

I've seen a few posts with what Taylon said, that some flavorings have alcohol in them and it needs to evaporate off.

Also I've seen where the nicotine needs to oxidize to mellow it out or it will burn some peoples throats, nose, and/or mouths. Leaving the lids off helps this process, too.

Then there is the flavor enhancement gained by letting juice sit for, from what I've read, anywhere between 2 days to 6 or 8 weeks. This part seems to depend on the exact flavorings used, and probably even which company makes them as there are different methods used to get the different flavoring types for the same original source items.

So anyhow, did your room smell like peaches, or something else?

Anybody know about using an ultrasonic cleaner to speed up the steeping process.

Yes there is a guy Chadsmo in the Jugheads thread that say he does it all the time and says it works. There was also another guy who said he puts the bottles in a bag and puts them on the outside of his dryer so that they get a little bit of heat to speed the steeping as well as being vibrated. Hope that helps.

Steeping is kinda' ridiculous. I know it's necessary right now, but it's one of those things that we'll look back on and say, "remember when you had to let your juice sit in a dark closet, and give it a warm bath, and shake it every day?" Geez.

This whole vaping thing is so new, and technology is advancing so fast. We might be out of the stone age, but we're still stuck in the bronze age, I think. Probably will be some really cool developments in the next few years.

It's not that they add alcohol to the juice directly, but many of the flavorings used have alcohol as a carrier.

I scoured their website for any such advice and didn't find it. If anyone can point me to it, I'd appreciate it.

I'm not upset... I got some juice that on day 1, I don't like - but hoping it'll work out.

Of course if it doesn't it's a couple of bucks, not the end of the world.
