How long does a battery last? How many do I need if I can't buy local?

I'm in Lansing, MI which is bfe for e-cig stuff. I've got 2 ego 900mAh things with a starter kit from madvapes. Should I get a couple more as backups? How long does one last? Not before it needs charging, but how long will it last until it turns into junk that doesn't work anymore? Is it just a li-ion battery in it. 14500 or something? I do flashlights big time so I have lots of nice 14500 and 18650 batteries. Nothing with "fire" in the name :) Thank you for any helpful answers guys! Please don't use wick, tank, clearomizer, or dilithium crystal in your answer. I don't know all the lingo yet..:)

You'll probably do fine for a few months at least. I was just vaping a backup-eGo from 3 years ago (main mod had problem for a bit).

It's about 500 charges...they say....but partial charges only count partially. Also, they can have random-other-failures.

I'd say:
1) Use em for a bit. Wait until one fails and get another or better yet:
2) Since you have 14500's around, get a 14500 based mod. That's best. Sounds like you have a charger and such.

Just make sure they are safe batteries (like IMR) or are protected in a protected mod (double protection). The IMRs are safer since they don't vent as violently even with internal shorts. They have lower mAh though. Trade off.

If your charger does larger batteries too....then investigate 18650's if you don't mind the slightly larger mod size required.

Regardless, make sure the batteries you use are A) safe and B) support the necessary amps. Please research here on ECF and elsewhere.

Thanks for the advice. I don't run much protected batteries. My 14500's are Keeppower with Samsung cells and my 18650's are all Sanyo, Samsung, and Sony laptop pulls. As long as you don't use ***fire batteries they don't get internal shorts and all that. I have a Nitecore i4 V2 charger and others. I was more worried the e-cig batteries would like last a couple weeks if good, and maybe be duds out of the box. I don't want to get stranded and have to go back to analogs. I'm not poor so I might buy backups anyways. Or maybe go nuts and get something I can use my 25? 18650's in. Thank you sir! I want to move to your location. Is there a dragon hunting season there? :)

I've had ego style batteries last from four months to over a year. I do have several, so I may only charge them once a day or two. But I have dropped a couple on the hard driveway and one never worked again while the other ended up with a finicky button. I took one up on the roof while hanging Christmas lights and it came apart in my pocket. Then there was the one that I put in my cup of coffee (I swear I thought it was empty). Bottom line...you can never have too many.

If all else fails....tell it....(get ready for it)

Since you're into flashlights anyway you might as well get into 18650 mods right away;
vamo, sid, svd, tesla, zmax, provari.

With regular eGo batteries, they could last a long time, but in my case all 6 of mine ended up failing prematurely; probably due mainly due to a faulty charger; there's also the issue of liquid leaking down into the battery.
