Technically nicotine has a half-life of 1-2 hours. It rapidly oxidizes to cotinine, which is often what is tested for, and has a half life of 20 hours, so depending on when you stop entirely, it might be present, it might not. 20 hours is how long it takes for 1/2 of it to leave the system, then another 20 hours for 1/2 of that. Sensitivity of the test is of course important here, and there is no way to know that.
Less frequently the test is for another
tobacco-specific alkaloid, anabasine, that would not be present in batches, gum or lozenges. If it seems politically reasonable, and often it is strangely not, you might ask them if using an NRT, like nig gum, would be a problem, or if the test is for
smoking, or some other tobacco product, like snus. Chances are even nic gum, etc, is considered bad, but you might get lucky.
Best of luck!
