Are you the type that always has to have the latest and greatest shinny new toy? You need to figure out what's important to you. For me, I had three requirements, in order...
1) it had to get me off the cigarettes
2) ease of use
3) save money

My little 900mah ego type fit the bill to a tee. Its been 14 months now and it's still filling my requirements so for me I see absolutely no reason to jump on the mod wagon.......just to spend more money....I think not. I went from spending $1825. per year smoking to $149. per year vapeing. I am content at this point.

This is how it went for me...
1) I started with the gas station ones (Metro, Mistic, etc.)- got me off analogs, but I needed more battery life.
2) Ordered a pen-style kit online (808, 510, cigarette-looking-sized device)- STILL not enough battery life.
3) Got an Ego- The solution to my battery issues. But, as my taste buds began to come back in full swing, I wanted the most performance (taste) out of my e-juices.
4) Got a Lavatube VV device- juices really awakened with variable voltage, battery life is GREAT, but device is not-so-great for day-to-day vaping (especially at work when you get those WTH is that looks)
5) Back to my Ego for, if for nothing more than the convenience factor. Mine is variable voltage in an Ego-sized battery and will vape at 4.2 volts

Conclusively- An Ego, in my opinion, is the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!!

I have been lurking and reading threads here for several weeks.
Ordered a volt starter kit yesterday and registered on the forum today.

My question after all the threads I have read is, How long does it usually take to outgrow a starter and move to the modded route?

Any and all personal experiences are greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all for sharing their knowledge. This forum definitly helped make my decision to go the ecig route.

How long does it take to out grow a starter kit? Hmmm, as soon as you take your first puff on one! I started with one and still wanted a real cigarette.... No satisfaction at all.... As soon as I got my first Mod (A Provape1) and added some LR attys the problem was sloved..... No more real cigs... Come on we were smokers and loved that nicotine with the warm inhale, no little toy would do. I allways recommened a Mod even for a Noob. I have seen more kits put away and people going back to real smoking because they dont get what they need from a little e-cig. Start right in my opinion or you will be wasting your money........ Provari V2-Genuine Joye SR atomizers-AW Batteries-Pila charger-Innovapors Ultrapure 100% VG 36mg e-liquid, thats my starter kit for a Noob wanting to get off real cigarettes... Satisfaction Guaranteed....... If that doesnt work nothing will....

At this point I'm very pleased with my eGo. I did buy a pair of the Twist batteries so I can enjoy vaping at a higher (and more consistent) voltage. While I can afford a Provari, I just don't see the need for one myself...

Well you will never know what you are missing then....lol.....

I think it really depends on how much you smoked previously. I used to be a pack a day. My wife got me a few of the disposable ones, which got me interested. Within a week I was on ECF looking to upgrade. I settled on V2 because I didn't want to invest too much money early on. I found their shipping to be too irregular, and a bit pricey overall. So after 2-3 weeks I switched to SI. 2 weeks after I got their X2, clearomizers, and e-liquid and I really like this set up. The X2 (1300 mAh) hasn't died yet, but I use it as a passthrough while it's charging for an hour or 2 most days. I still use the minis in public because it's more discrete.

As many others have said, it's really about your preference. My brother-in-law still prefers minis and cartos, despite having smoked about the same amount as I did. He finds it more convenient and apparently doesn't mind recharging often.

First and foremost congratulations on deciding to quit smoking.

I'm a little odd in that I think I skipped some of the normal steps that most people go through.

I had zero intention or desire to quit smoking (1.5 - 5 PAD for 30+ years). My friend walked into work one day with an ego and I tried it. Bought my first one with a couple tanks that day at lunch and haven't smoked a cigarette since. The next day, I got my second ego.

Three weeks later, after having tried the mod my new friend/supplier had, and I was ready to order one of the big guns. I've only had it for a few days now and kinda regret not starting there. Although it may have turned out to be a foolish move if vaping hadn't become so enjoyable to me. I would have spent all that money on a VERY nicely built paperweight.

The nice thing is that my wife went from her cigarette style PVs to wanting an ego so I got her one. I kept one of the two I had for a backup in case my APV decides I'm unworthy for a while and gave her my second one. She claims she won't ever want to upgrade and intends to quit vaping soon too. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! We'll see Honey!

I was perfectly happy with my egos and highly recommend them for a beginner. I'm curious if I needed more because my taste buds (among other things) started to heal and repair. But then I think probably way too much about way too many things. In about three weeks I should be even with what I've spent on vaping gear compared to what I would have spent on cigarettes. Considering that and how much better I feel all around, I have no regrets.

Now if my beautiful new APV will just stop trying to talk me into buying its twin so soon.....

It took me three months to upgrade from my 510 to a Chuck.
Been there for over 30 months now.

So far I have avoided going the variable voltage route, even though I know I would prefer it.
If they could customize a Provari to look like my Chucks, I'd be vaping one.

Instead, I bought some of the 4.8 volt NiMH batteries, so at least I'm vaping at higher voltage.
And still continuing to resist the siren call of variable voltage!

It depends on your threshold for new toys and your curiosity about different methods and flavors.
I went 510 to ego to 18650 in 9 months. The trick is to do your research here, don't invest anything you can't afford, and TEST TEST TEST new stuff in as small an investment as possible! Nothing sucks as much as setting aside 5 new cartomizers because they are too fiddly for you or a 50 ml bottle of juice you wouldn't inflict in your worst enemy!
One of the reasons I quit analogs was the wide variety of flavors vaping offers. Be aware of what gives you the most satisfaction and feed that need!

No VV mod?? Hard to belive with all your post on the forum... Once you try one nothing else will do.. The problem with those 4.8 volt batteries is that they are only 600 mah... Plus as they discharge the voltage drops... With a VV Provari the voltage remains the same through out the battery charge. Consistancey is the key to VV.....

Can only speak for myself.... I started with a Greensmoke. Took less than 4 weeks for me to outgrow it. Got tired of charging, recharging, empty cartos 3-4 times a day.... I moved on to a Lavatube with a Phiniac Tank setup and I'm loving it! Dont' know about you, though. You may or may not get tired of yours soon. Some people like the minis, I didn't, not for very long...... :vapor:

I've tried both a Darwin and a Provari, and I get it.
But I care more about my Chucks than I do about getting the perfect vaping experience.

Hi,

Luckily I had a friend that had been vaping for a year, He started with the little cig look alike and moved each step up. So with his advise I started with the eGo C with 1000 mAh batteries and passthrough. However that got me a month to six weeks. My next step was to put a low res carto/tank on my eGo battery. That lasted 3 months. Now I have built my own variable voltage mod, but still use the tank system.
