The reason why you should run down a laptop battery the first couple of times is not the battery itself, but the life expectancy estimation algorithm that is built into the energy logic of a modern laptop.

Vapers don't have all that - and running an IMR battery completely empty would permanently kill it. With a REO it's theoretically possible to suck the battery dry, but you'd not get much vapor at 3.1 or so Volts, so you swap it out early enough.

If you can, swap the battery before it goes below 3.5V. It will have a much longer life this way. If an IMR ever happens to go below 2.6V it is safest to dump it and not even try to charge it. If you MUST charge it, watch it closely the whole time, and charge it outside if possible.

I realize that and quite familar with laptop memory batts since it was my job for most of my career which is why I corrected myself when commenting on e-cig batts. Allowing a NEW laptop battery not to drain will often only recharge to that point with future recharges (btw its also that way with electric beard clippers). :)

EDIT: I should have mentioned Li-Ion batteries don't suffer from the memory effect. :)

Anticipating the Reos arrival today, I put the AWs on the charger... About an hour later the lights turned green. Checked both batteries and they're topping off at 4.1. This doesn't seem right. Is it common for new batteries to "under charge"?

Thanks,
Woods.

Go ahead and use your batteries and keep checking the voltages off the charger. If after a few recharge cycles, they're still topping out at 4.1, contact the vendor that sold you your charger and see what they suggest. (Super T?)

Also, make sure you have a good battery in your multimeter. :) Speedy Reo delivery vibes sent your way!

Mine always top off at 4.2 something. Maybe they need a few charge cycles to reach full potential.

As do mine 4.2 every time. It is possible it's your meter? Do you have something else with a known voltage to test your meter?

My AW IMR 18650's have always charged at between 4.16 and 4.18 on my Pila charger. As I understand it, 4.22 is a maximum charge and anything within .05 volts is considered acceptable. Mine are obviously hedging the line but I haven't twitched over it because it remains uniform and some of these batteries have a lot of charges on them. If you're getting 4.10, certainly there seems to be a problem somewhere--charger, batteries or multimeter.

Thanks for the input! I let the batts rest for a bit, then put them back on the charger. Pressed the reset button and within 20 minutes they were just shy of 4.2. Acceptable by my standards.

And...

What charger you using, I thought the Phila doesnt charge as high as the TR-001's and the Phila takes them up t 4.1+ max then goes into trickle or cuts off, I dont have a Phila,,,, and the Trustfire's take them to 4.2+v ? mine charge to 4.2+ on my TR-001

I have a pila. I believe I made a mistake and pulled the batteries off too soon, which tripped the "full" setting on the charger. After pressing the reset button, it cleared that out, and brought them right up to 4.2.

Everything I'm seeing in the pila manual, and all the research I've done, says 4.2. so she's right on the money.
