Well it changes with time. I'm a vet. Will have 2 years in August. I have lost count of attys. have 6 mods so many parts that I have a small parts tray just for it. LOL. At least two of everything. Stuff breaks, batteries go dead. I'd have at least 2 attys an mods for each person. Ways to charge them at home or in the car and if you have one with replaceable batteries a spare battery. Maybe 4-5 drip tips if they are the plastic kind as they break. Replacement tank glass maybe.

Do the attys break due to not conducting electricity or do they get burned up?

They wear out over time - the atty is the heating element, so it takes a lot if abuse and temperature changes. Depending on what type of atomizer she's using, they can last anywhere from a day or two to about a month.

For batteries, again, it depends on the type, but you want at least two (unless the device is something like an MVP that has a long lasting battery built in and the ability to use it while it's charging). I use the big 18650 batteries, but I chain vape at a medium high power setting, so I tend to keep 2-3 of them in rotation between the device and the charger.

Any battery you look at will be have a number followed by the letters "mah" in the description. This is an estimated rating of how long they will last. It's not perfect, but the higher that number, the more use she'll get before she has to charge it.

And it's better to get too many spare parts than too few - she'll always be able to use the extras when things need replacing, but nothing sucks more than having a craving when your device doesn't work at the moment because a battery is charging or you need to replace the atomizer.

Have back-ups for your back-ups for your back-ups. Good rule to keep.

You should have at least 2, if not 3 batteries and/or a pass-thru or battery with a pass-thru feature.

If your atty has a replaceable coil, you should keep no less than 3 fresh coils at any given time. When it dies, replace it.

Have at least a weeks worth of juice at all times. (however much juice you use per day by ml)

Two PV's, three batteries, two chargers, a couple of toppers depending on the type you like. I would look at this as a minimum 'just in case' scenario. In my 'ready service' rack, I have an AGA T2 (rebuildable tank), an IGO L (rebuildable dripper), two Vivi Nova tanks (also rebuildable), a Kayfun clone, and a carto (g). Plus a box of spare cartos/clearos and Vivi Novas. Various juices ready to go, supplies for making more juice, couple of spools of Kanthal for recoiling. If something breaks I'm covered. That way I can avoid buying a cig-a-like at a gas station. And there is no way in hell I'm going back to cigarettes!!!!

My wife was a chainsmoker. I'm concerned one battery isnt enough. How many spare parts are necessary?

For a heavy smoke (like I was), I'd have three batteries, a back up charger, something around a half dozen of the little bits like coils. Coils/atomizers can fail suddenly. You never know when. They are heater coils and get heated up and cooled off repeatedly. They do burn out. And heavy vaping will stress them and shorten their lives. They can also be pretty cheap. Mine are $3 and they're dual coil fancy shmancy stuff. :)

When I was on a eGo style, I had three batteries so if one failed, I still had two for "rotation" (one in use, one charging) while a replacement was on the way.

Definitely a spare charger. If that fails, none of the batteries will work!

I would keep it simple (for now.) If eGo style batteries, buy three. Two chargers, in case one fails. 6 toppers (I recommend EVODS for new users) and 10 replaceable coils for the EVODS.

2 different types of juice, for when she gets bored, she can switch up.

That would be the absolute minimum, IMHO. She can get into the more complicated stuff (or not) later on.

That is a bit much if you are just starting out!

I second this. Keep it simple in the beginning because you never know what where tastes will run in the future (or what new shiny things will come out). Two ego-type batteries minimum, three are better (even the fixed voltage 650 mah will do). Evods are good basic tanks; you could also try T3S/MT3S's if the Evod seems a little small. Having multiple tanks also allows an easier rotation of flavors. Extra coils for the tanks is a must.

The others have already answered your question but I just wanted to welcome you to ecf. You will find that it is a wonderful place for information and all the support you can handle. Lots of nice folks here. Good luck to ya and happy vaping. Look forward to reading about your vaping journey. :)

My daughter and I were able to get 2 Evod starter kits each when we switched from cigalikes - 4 batteries, 4 clearomizers, 10 extra coils, 2 chargers, plus a Protank 2 Mini for each of us. Having extras has come in handy for us - my daughter did not see the warning that Mt. Baker Vapor's Wild Cherry was a tank cracker. She loaded it into her tank just before she left work to come home a week after we got the Evods. Ruined tank. Lesson learned to check before you load up the plastic clearo. She takes an extra battery with her to work, just in case. Last week, she pulled her spare battery out of her pocket and the top of the battery (the part that attaches to the clearo) came part way off. Backups to the backups. We also saved the chargers, batteries, and some empty cartos from my cigalike setup. In case of a real emergency with all the Evods, we still have the ability to vape.

That's it in a nut shell. As long as you can carry on vaping if any one thing fails at any time, then you have a basic backup to go to, no matter what. Just remember to backup the item that you've had to use, or when it fails youll have no backup.

Was there to many repeats of the word backup in there...

This is very sensible advice.

If she currently has only one battery, then an EVOD starter kit could work out a cheap way to get the spares, as it comes with 2 batteries, 2 clearos, a charger and 5 spare coils.

May I just say that depending on what type of tank system she is using, you might want to have some extra drip tips too.

I was in Disney World once and lost the tip to the vivi nova I was using. Panic ensued. I had back up juice, battery & a portable charger with me, but I was not prepared for that!
