Self-explanatory title.

My buddy first started off with a cartotank on his eGo. MAJOR leakage.

Another buddy got a Kanger Mini PT 2. MINOR leakage from the bottom, since it's bottom fill. (Perhaps this will become less with experience and knowledge of the tank, but still wanting a better solution.)

Another friend has a clearomizer that NEVER leaks, altho, she does complain that it will sometimes pull thru the tip if it's turned upside down. However, I've never experienced this like I have with the other two options.

Are all clearomizers top-fill like hers? I really think that her solution is the best. Altho, the Kanger does TASTE better. I feel that a more portable solution should be leak free. What are my options??

That must have been a cheap tank. I use only pyrex cartotanks. With over a dozen cartotanks used over the last 18 months I've never had a single cartotank leak. Spend some money on a decent quality tank and you will not see a leak.

I was initially looking for portable tanks. But if even a larger homestyle tank exists with an abillity not to leak in either direction, I'd like to hear about it.

The thing is that there's always going to be one person who doesn't know what they're doing and will [try to] unscrew something and spill the juicy goodness. Soo... a top-fill solution seems like the better solution to me. Whether they unscrew the whole assembly from the battery, or just the lid to the tank, there will be no spillage.

One of the simplest top coils is a Kanger T2 (ego threaded). I used these for the first 6 months until I learned enough to work with all of the other options. They don't leak often, and are simple to fill, replace heads, and clean. I still use them on occasion, and it is all my wife uses. They are not my favorite, but they work.

I'm just a lowly newbie, and don't really know much about all this, but...I had the good fortune that my local vape shop sold me 2 Pyrex Aro Tanks to go with my ego batteries. I've been using them non-stop for the last couple of weeks and not a leak of any kind. They've been in my coat pocket and in my purse, right side up, and upside down. No leaking!

Oops, I don't even know if they are top fill or not?

A good carto tank such as the IBTanked, especially with a straight drip tip, such as those from Empire Mods, are leak-free and dead simple to use. To refill, slide the tank up so the top end cap is just above the drip tip, push the tank over, and fill with a dropper. Slide the tank back down, wipe the drip tip off and you're done. No tank tool needed. It's fast and easy.

Swapping out a clogged or dead carto is easy as well, even with a full tank. Remove the drip tip, put the 510 connection of the new, primed carto in the drip tip end of the old carto, and push the new carto down past the first o-ring. Flip the tank over and push the new carto up until the old one pops out the top and the new one slides past the second o-ring. Wipe the 510 connector off and install on the mod. No tank tool needed.

Define "LEAK". Some folks consider the normal "seeping" from a BCC on to the top of the battery as "leaking". Others accept it as part of the design.

Are you getting wet hands or a spot on the battery? It's a big difference. Typically coil related - 'normal' or 'abnormal'. Just "leaking' is not specific enough I don't believe.

What about the joyetech eComs??? They say they're leak free, but is it really so?

I highly doubt I'll buy this since it's probably too expensive compared to other VV/VW ego-style devices... but it's not entirely out of the question.

The "VV/VW" you note is a battery - it won't leak. What you slap on top may. So........ "define LEAK".

It's all in the details.

Bulk of leaks seems to be user error or poorly manufactured atty head. Slow down and learn how to use them properly. Most leakage will happen when you start to rush. Lube the o-ring with juice instead of jamming it down dry. If you see a gasket, make sure they are align and sealed when closing. Apply proper amount of force on screws. .. etc. If you slow down and maintain the tanks properly, most of well known brand tanks should be leak free.

I do not have one.
Before the ecom there was just a short time before the ego-cc.

What they did was they channelled the air holes upwards so that a bottom coil tank doesn't leak.
So the air actually came from closer to the top of the tank, and had to go down first before it flowed up to the mouthpiece.

It's like the way the simple hookah is designed so first air flows down before it flows up, and it passes through liquid, but the liquid doesn't leak out because the liquid cannot leak UP!

That way, if a little liquid leaked down into the airflow passage, it would then have to go upwards! before it could possibly leak out!
I badly wanted one, because it was just something begging do be built.

Then they came out with the ecom three months later; which is some further complifications added in the middle between the tank and the battery, but I gather the ego-cc airflow system is included.

Then Kanger and Aspire came out with their Aero and Nautilus systems for adjustable airflow. .... What to say about that. I honestly do not know.

So to answer your question: the eCom and it's really the ego-cc top part - the "topper" - where the airflow is, should be a revolution in the atomizer/tank design which removes a persistent leak problem.

Well, a good carto tank will not leak. The best tanks, IMO, would be from IBTanked or Phiniac. They make quality glass tanks with amazing o-rings that will keep the pressure contained and won't leak. Clearomizers are in another league as I have yet to find any that are not made in China...
