I am doing this for my elderly mother. She has been smoking real cigarettes at the rate of a half pack pee day.
How many carto's should I have filled and how much juice in reserve?
I purchased 5 filled, 5 empty, 2 mini tanks and 30ml of torque.
Mom is moving in this Wednesday and I am worried about quantities. I also have two batteries that came in the starter kit. Do I need more?

WHen I was using my G6, I would probably refil my tanks 3 times a day (each tank is misleading. Each is labeled as .9ml, but in actuality they only take like .75ml). So 3x .75ml = 2.25ml

So even at that, if you use 2ml a day, one bottle would last about 15 days. Figure a week on shipping, try to figure having 2 bottles on hand at all times. That should give you some leeway between orders.

Personally, I have atleast 8 bottles of 30ml, and roughly 8 more of various sizes at any one time.

If I get the higher nicotine content, would the amount of use be less, since the feeling threshold would be met sooner?

She has been smoking a harsh, cheap brand of cigarettes. I think they were Pall Mall Red's.

If you are wondering, I don't smoke. My mother has dementia and has recently been transitioning to Walgreen throw aways. When she arrives in three days, I hope to have a class system that will last a while and still save some money.
I first heard that 1ml equaled a pack of 20 cigarettes, but upon further study, it seems more like 7 cigarettes.

I will be doing all the battery charging, filling and cleaning, so I am trying to reduce my work load.

Thank you all for helping.

No it might not meet the threshold sooner. For a number of different reasons. The first is while nicotine is part of the addiction, so is the ritual, of putting the device to our lips, and inhaling. Just that motion in itself is soothing to us. If part of her addiction is the ritual/oral then a high nic level might give too much nicotine, not knowing how bad her dementia is, she may not be able to communicate effecitively to you the symptoms that would indicate this, so you might want to pay attention to her blood pressure levels and if she starts to become more sleepless at night (both excellent indicators of too much nic). Since she has dementia, you wont be most likely able to teach her the more efficient ways of vaping, but I'll include the link for you;

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

Dont bother trying to figure out how many ml = cigs, it does not transiition like that, because of the different methods of how the body aborbs. You can compare the nic level for the two types in a lab, but once real world comes into play, it just doesnt transition that easily. Most heavy smokers, start with a 24 or 18mg juice, partly because they are used to a lot of nic, and partly because they try to vape like they used to smoke... so they are "wasting" a lot of the nic. You will find that a lot of the people here, once they learned to vape "properly" and use efficient inhalation techniques, quickly drop their nic levels down a notch.

Might i make a suggestion. Depending on how bad her dementia is, you might play a dirty trick on her. Let her get used to the level of nic you got her, then slow.. drop the nic levels, especially if she is going through a lot of juice a day. Say you start her at 24mg, let her have that for a month, then mix her down to 20mg, then a month (or a week) mix her down to 18mg, then to 16mg, so on and so on, 2mgs every drop, until you get to a poiint where she just gets either too cranky.. or you hit zero. You would have to mix the juice yourself to achieve all these micro steps but it really isnt too difficult with a juice calculator. mixing 1ml of 24mg and 1mil of 12mg, gives you 2ml of 18mg, etc etc.

The answer is different to an experienced vaper. I'd want 30ml on hand. say 10ml of my 3 flavors. Basically, enough to get me until the postman delivers the next batch.

But since Mom is a beginner, I'd want a few more options. Besides the Torque, maybe 1 other flavor. (Malibu, Belgian Cocoa, Mystic, maybe some Tribeca.) Since we don't know what she will like, nor are we sure of the nic level, you might want a selection on hand. Don't worry, it'll probably all get used. I have some juice that I add just a bit as a filler to other juices, sort of stretching it out.

I wouldn't worry too much about the money right now. She was spending about $25 a week on cigs. Once it all levels out, she'll be using 10, maybe 15 a week. Since you'll want to buy from Halo, you want to take advantage of the reward points, so make sure you buy $20 of hardware (if needed) and $20 of juice. (Remember, the reward is for each $20 spent after discounts and before shipping. The code ECFTEN2014 is only for 10% off juice).

Let's hope she likes the mini tank. They are much easier to refill than a carto. And for batteries? I'd try to have enough for her to last at least a day without recharging. 2 bats might be cutting it tight. A third would give a nicer margin. And maybe she'd like one of a different color.

And I know how easy the automatic G6 batteries are to use. But they don't have much capacity. If Mom could learn the one button to push while vaping, this opens up better possibilities. She could get a Triton battery. a 900 or 1300mAh Triton battery isn't much longer (yes, fatter, a half inch diameter vs the thinner G6) and would most likely last her all day. (You'll need a Triton charger, the G6 charger isn't compatible).

Last but important. I wish you strength, luck and good wishes. I admire what you are doing for Mom. It is challenging, difficult and a sacrifice. I applaud your good efforts. Feel free to send me a PM at any time with questions or problems. I do pray for her success in this life change.

How has she been doing with the cheapy Walmart E-cigs?

That may give you an idea of how quickly she will go through a single carto.

I would consider always having at least one extra bottle on hand, as well as another flavor to rotate out (this will help with vapor's tongue as well).

As for extra batteries, you will find that if she is a frequent user, you will want one or two more since waiting for them to charge and not having one ready is a bit annoying. A Triton battery is another alternative since it has a higher capacity (and carto's and mini-tanks work on it) and it may be easier to hold since it is slightly fatter.

No it isnt an alternative, from his original post... he needs the automatic functionality.

ahh, i missed that. perhaps a Rube Goldberg contraption involving three hamsters, a spatula, an eggplant, fourteen feet of spindled llama hair, a one-eyed Zoroastrian fortune teller, and a....wait...thats how to improvise a water pipe.....nevamind...

My brother says she is going through the cheapy e-cigs in a day and a half. It's costing him a bunch for the week and a half she has been with him.

As to teaching her how to inhale, I don't know. She has about a 30 minute short term memory. Long term is fine. Essentially, her day restarts every 30 minutes.

It sounds like I need more batteries and juice to make sure I don't run out of either.

I may get a different juice just to try. If I keep to the tobacco flavors, would it be a problem switching from one to another, if I use water to clean them?

except for the "gunky" flavors like Belgian Cocoa, Cafe Mocha, and Voodoo, the tobacco-style flavors tend to be thinner and easier to clean up.

if she is going through a retail e-cig in a day and half, then a regular cartomizer or mini-tank should last about a day. you have 10 total (the pre-filled ones can most certainly be re-used, although i personally wouldnt change flavors in them). The mini-tanks you bought will be really easy to clean if you want to switch out flavors.

If you are really worried about flavor mixing, you can always get a different colored carto for the other flavor.

First, we aren't sure she is gonna like Torque. I'd have something else lined up just in case. And I agree with wheezal, multiple flavors. Get various colors of the mini tanks, if they work for her, or the different colored cartos is a good idea. With the price of these items, just dedicate certain tanks/cartos to one flavor. The color code will help her as well.

And I think only the doctordun and Mom can ascertain whether or not a manual battery is feasible. (I'm thinking of my mother-in-law, who mastered the cable remote pretty quickly...)

There is going to be a trial and error/learning period. We all went through one, remember?

Will she be able to unscrew a spent carto and screw on another?

one thing I feel i should mention, she has been smoking for a long time yes? Old smoker's habits are hard to change. And I see suggestions for the "sweeter" flavors. Which isnt always a bad thing. But it should be a gradual change. Going from those Pall Malls, or the throwaways (which are mostly basic "tobacco" or menthol) to those other flavors could be enough to make a complete transition hard.
I would suggest getting samplers of Turkish tobacco, freedom juice and Prime15 to try out at first to cover the tobacco side. If she was into menthols at all, then from my experience I would suggest a sampler of MentholX. And you can always cut one flavor with another. If menthol was too strong, then add a few drops to Prime for a milder menthol flavor.

And while the mini tanks are a great stepping stone from carto's to tanks, it might over complicate things right now. Keep it basic with cartos (you can choose different colors on these as well) and you will still be hitting a familiar note to those throwaways in terms of looks.

So sad about your mom and it's great your trying to help her out. And I'm sure since you're not a smoker, this will help you as well. Just make sure you keep an eye on her bottles as they are used so you can reorder before she runs out.
