What if you've been smoking ultra light cigs?

That's actually pretty near meaningless.

Firstly, ultra light cigs are made ultra light by adding little holes around the filter (look real close and you can see them) which mix air in with the smoke. Thing is, those holes are usually where people have their fingers when they hold the cig, and studies have shown that people who smoke ultra lights have a tendency to hold the cigs in such a way as to block as many of the holes as possible. So odds are what you were actually inhaling was actually about the same as a light-side-of-normal cigarette.

Secondly, vaping differs from smoking in some important ways, including how the nicotine is absorbed in your body. The absorption rate with vaping is much lower and slower and varies more from person to person. So there's only a loose correlation between what you smoked and what mg level you should vape at.

I'd suggest trying at 24mg (where most people like to be) and adjusting from there. Personally, I vape at 18mg, which is the second most common dosage.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I've noticed the holes.
Someone once said smoking my brand was like "smoking the wind".
I've been worried about the nicotine amount myself. I'm afraid If I start out too strong I'll decide vaping isn't for me and go back to analogs.

LOL! Whenever someone gave me a light cig to smoke I'd rip the filter off and smoke it filterless. As for nicotine amts, it's a lot easier to adjust the amount lower using the stuff you have (or can buy at the store) than it is to raise the nicotine level.

It's always best to get a couple different mg strengths, you'll want some lighter and some stronger anyway even if you find your perfect mg there will come a time when you either want a little extra kick or a little less kick - nice to have that option.

You will probably have better success staying off cigarettes with 24mg but just be careful not to over smoke it. You can move down to 16 in the next few weeks after that. Also, there are a few menthol flavors offered on the market right now if thats your flavor you enjoy. At times the more nicotine, the more throat hit I get from what I have seen personally.

1.5 PAD, 40+ years, I tried to start out with 16mg. I quickly discovered that would not work for me and upped the mg to 24. 24mg was my sweet spot to begin with. I started to take that down to like 18mg about 4 months later, then 16, then down to 12. Now, I'm down to 10-12mg, can't do 24 any more (gives me the willies now).

The vast majority of the time it is the exact opposite. People start too low, get frustrated and go back to smoking.

If you're not dizzy, nauseated or satisfied then you nicotine level is too low. If you are vaping 24/7 then your nicquid doesn't have enough nicotine. This easy people! Listen to your body.

I believe a couple few different studies were done and the range was between 10%-40% (though, I've heard as high as 80%) I don't know all the studies, but here are some results from one:
http://www.healthnz.co.nz/DublinEcigBenchtopHandout.pdf

In this one you can see the difference in nicotine per puff between Marlboros and Ruyan e-cigs (however, this page neglects to say if this is in nicotine absorbed or in the product and what mg nicotine was used in the Ruyan product).

As far as the taste between an 18 and a 24 I didn't notice any real difference.

If you get too high, you can always get a lower nic level and mix them. It won't go to waste. Too low and you'll vape constantly or want an analog.

I vape 24, in some liquids 30mg. Reading the board, I use a lot less juice than other people seem to be using.

I notice a big difference (24mg is a lot pepperier to me than 18), but that isn't why I vape at 18. I've just found that at 24, I can't vape as much as I want to! :vapor:

My 30 is peach so maybe that's why. I tried a bunch of samples in different nic levels. I liked it, so I ordered a 24 but it didn't seem a lot different to me. Both were great!

My next batch I'm going to try 18 I think. Maybe. I hate to mess with success but I'd love to try to lower the nic level at some point.

Thanks everybody. I really appreciate your help. I will definatley start with the 24s. I read on the Bloog site that the vapor is mostly water with some PG. I thought it was all PG. Which is true?

The liquid that goes into the e-cig is PG (or VG) but the cloud that you exhale is water, pg and trace amounts of nicotine.

Someone posted a composition break down of eliquid (I think from the NZ study) that showed 67% water and 17% PG.
