I'm new to the e-cig and juice world. I don't understand how purified nicotine is made into a liquid. Is it somehow squeezed out of tobacco leaves? What company or person does this - meaning, where are all of these ejuice companies getting the purified nicotine? How do we know all of the nicotine juice is safe and at these strength levels claimed?

Also, as a newbie, I am having trouble figuring out what strength of nicotine juice is right for me. I smoke a pack a day, so am guessing 16-18mg strength is about right. But I've found that I don't always smoke the same # of drags on a ecig as I would if I was smoking a whole analog cig all the way through.

I think this is an issue that would be confusing and disorienting for lots of newbies. When I buy a 16mg prefilled cartomizer for my SmokeStik Hendu, does that mean there is 16mg in the whole cartomizer? So, I should plan on vaping the whole cartomizer in a day to equal the amount of nicotine I would normally get from my PAD analog habit?

I'm new to the e-cig and juice world. Hello, so am I. I don't understand how purified nicotine is made into a liquid. Is it somehow squeezed out of tobacco leaves? Its a chemical process done in a lab. So basically you are right. What company or person does this - meaning, where are all of these ejuice companies getting the purified nicotine? From manufacturers who supply chemicals to other companies. The same way McDonald's orders beef pattys from a slaughter house who processes cattle. How do we know all of the nicotine juice is safe and at these strength levels claimed? You don't. I got sick eating a hamburger, 6 babies died from drinking milk sold in stores,, dogs died when poison was accidentally added to their food, people have found ammonia in cokacola...nothing is 100% safe. just run with the crowd and there is safety in numbers.

Also, as a newbie, I am having trouble figuring out what strength of nicotine juice is right for me. I smoke a pack a day, so am guessing 16-18mg strength is about right. Its all up to you. Some heavy smokers can't handle what light smokers can...the human body is a great thing (I find the female body of interest BTW....lol) But I've found that I don't always smoke the same # of drags on a ecig as I would if I was smoking a whole analog cig all the way through.

happy vaping :vapor:

You may want to do some research in the Nicotine section. I had read there a long time ago that it took approximately 2.5 times the nicotine in an e-cig to be the equivalent of what you'd get in an analog. For example, if your analogs contained .8mg of nicotine each, and you smoked 20 a day, that's 16mg per day. According to that formula, you'd then need about 40mg per day from an e-cig. I haven't looked into it further since then, but that formula seemed to work well for me when I started. You'll want to find out how much liquid your cartomizer holds (I would guess somewhere around 1ml).

I understand that 16mg means that much mg of nicotine in a MLof liquid. Does that mean I would be vaping a ML a day to equal a pack of cigs? How many drips make up a ML on average? Does a smokestik cartomizer, which I believe holds 30 drops or so, generally equal a ML? My main question though is I don't know how nicotine is made.

30mg!!!! holy cow...that pic in your avatar must be you! I vaped 18mg and got a buzz...30mg would put me in a coma

LMAO! Guess I have a pretty high tolerance. I started w/ 24mg and was constantly vaping morning to night, now I can set my PV down for a while at a time.
Then come to think of it....there was very little time in the day before that I wasn't huffing on an analog.

There are approximately 20 drops in a ml. As to your main question IDK.

Nicotine is a naturally occuring poison found in plants of the nightshade family. While tomatoes and eggplant, and others, have nicotine in them, tobacco has a higher concentration and grows well in most soils, so it is the most likely starting point for nicotine exctraction.

That is where nicotine comes from, a plant.

if you are interested in extraction techniques, that is a different question, but commercial labs use a chemical extraction process. If you wanted to do it yourself, there is plenty of information out there, but remember that nicotine is one of the most potent poisons known to man, so caution is required.

Yeah the nicotine mg of an eliquid is the mg of nicotine per ml (per milliliter). I don't know how many milliliters are on a Smokestik Hendu carto. I also don't know what kind of analogs you smoked and how much nicotine each had in it. It sounds like you smoked a bit like me, not always finishing an analog. I was a 1.5 pack/day lights smoker (.9 mg in each for a total of 18mg per pack). I'm vaping 16-18mg, often only 4-5 puffs every 15-20 min or so and feel satisfied as long as the juice has decent vapor, flavor, TH so I feel satisfied. I think I'm only going through about 1.5-1.8 ml per day with my small PV so I think that's roughly equal to what I was smoking, if anything maybe a bit more.

If you're trying to vape the equivalent to what you're currently smoking then you're going about it all wrong. Just start vaping something around 18mg. It's a good start. Everyone's metabolism is different and finding the answer to "how much should I vape if I currently smoke XX many cigarettes a day?" is impossible. Just start vaping...you'll settle into a comfortable amount before you know it. You'll never get to that comfortable zone if you over-think it. I'm willing to bet you never asked someone how many cigarettes and at what strength or length you should smoke in a day....same applies here for the most part. If you find yourself vaping a comfortable amount but are getting that nicotine "head ding" then lower the nicotine concentration. If you're feeling you're not getting enough, get a higher level of nicotine. Honestly, as a beginner I'd just give yourself some time for your body to adjust to something different before stepping up the nicotine. I'd recommend at least a few days.

Just a side note; I vape all day. Literally. All friggin day. I go through roughly 7-10ml of juice a day. Most of it is around 18mg nicotine. For some...this would kill them...LOL. For others....this is nothing. Everyone's results will vary.
I started vaping with 36mg juice and taking the "normal" smoke breaks with my coworkers throughout the day. Was pretty much trying to "replace" smoking with vaping. That didn't last long. Now I just vape all day in my office.
