From what Ive been reading it seems that rivas come with an automatic failure function free of charge with each purchase lol, and ego batts not much better.

So I ask you, since its quite possible that Ive only been reading the negative without contrast, how often in your opinion do you purchase a riva, ego, or any ego type clone and it works well for a decent amount of time, and where did you purchase from?

And no, I cant go buy a mod as much as Id like to ;)

My very first kit from Liberty flights are still in use since feb.

My second kit was the "lite" kit- one had a wonky button, the other had a major meltdown-LF.

My third and last set of two from LF- One wonkey button one again.

I've recently switched to original Joye from Vapor Kings, great buttons! I got one Joye eGo and one sit n' go passthru and that's all I use all day now.

With that said, they sell many Rivas and eGos and with most forums I've been to you hear alot more about the bad ones than the good. I've personally had a 50% failure rate, but I feel most people haven't.

I forget the exact number, but I lost all of my Rivas (~3) to switch failures and most of my Ego's (Tornados and Joyes circa 8) due to battery failures. Two started smoking and became so hot that I had to toss them into a sand bucket in my garage. Fortunately, I was around to note the failure. This was over a period of about 14 months.

It's the price you pay for having a self contained unit. One supplier (Mad Vapes) reported failure rates of greater than 30% on new units. 6 months ago, I said screw it and swore never to buy another self contained unit.

Things may have gotten better, but the costs just do not justify it. I can get 14500's or other 900 mAh batteries or greater for a fraction of the price of a new Riva/Ego/Tornado. From China with shipping, they average $3 vs. $20. LiIons can only be recharged some 300 times. If you are a heavy vaper (I am), it means that you will definitely fry a battery in less than a year.

Not to mention the fact that dedicated attys/cartos/tanks/accessories are much more expensive than the traditional type. For the last 6 months, I have only been using PV's with non proprietary batteries/systems. I use my two Reo Minis when out and about with LR 510's, several ePowers with tanks and LR cartos, and a BuzzPro and a ProVari with my Vapemates at home. In this time, I have tossed one standard battery. I fried one switch on an ePower, but that was my fault when I accidentally reversed the polarity of the battery in the dark. A new switch was $13.

As typical with these threads, people will say that their units are perfect and that any issues with a unit/customer service are clearly the fault of the OP-in addition to the fact that the OP is a pervert, does not bathe, beats the dog and kids, and spends the entire day in the trailer park home collecting welfare and watching re-runs of Anne Nicole Smith's reality shows and comics.

There have been many issues with everything from PV's to Attys/Tanks/etc. There are some quality suppliers out there who really stand behind the product even when there are design/production issues. Others take the money and run.

Vaping is anything but a plug and play experience. The Ego, despite the issues, did serve the purpose of keeping me off analogs for many months. It does work more or less; there are just many better designs out there, thankfully.

Uhhh....I didn't see anyone saying that. if I have an issue with one of my PVs, I'll be sure to let everyone know so they don't experience the same thing...or perhaps they can learn from it. Do you want us to make up problems so we can say we have similar issues? I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I guess I don't really see where you're going with this statement. In fact, I have seen quite the opposite.

I agree, however, that vaping is not completely a "plug and play" experience. The manufacturers and retailers (the good ones anyway) are learning as much from us (the end users) as they can and making adjustments to their products accordingly. For just the short amout of time that I've been vaping, I've already seen drastic improvements to the product bases that shows they are learning from us.

There is no tech anywhere that I know of that is flawless .. from TV's to Cameras, etc .. especially if it uses a battery ..

That said, there is no need to start taking cheap shots at folks that for the most part are trying to be helpful ..

I have 2 Riva kits, and they have performed flawlessly used within the intended structure ..

Similar to 808s I had several battery failures in the 2-1/2 - 3 months I used Rivas. The price point was low enough that I didn't sweat it.

My VV mod has had fewer issues than either 808 or Riva. I had one RMA total, early on, all 3 sets of batteries still work perfectly, long run time, after 7 months.

I am so impressed with the LF Riva Lite bundles I purchased in November, I'm still using the original batts from 2 kits that I rotate after charging. Initially I was getting a full day from pretty heavy vaping, now I'm getting at least 4-6 hours.

The only malfunctions I've had were self inflicted, tossing out in the yard, losing in the snow for days, but once located they are still in my arsenal performing flawlessly. I've spend less for 4 kits than I did for my one batt, mall rat last year that I still have, but hate!

The harsh reality is that every battery has a life span, and will die .... no exceptions.
As a general rule you should expect between 6 months to a year from an eGo/Riva bat depending on your vaping habits.
Which is no different than any other battery that is commonly used for vaping.

Size matters; the larger the battery is (mAh of the bat), the fewer charge cycles used for the same amount of vaping.

How's that whole passive-agressive thing working for ya?

All anyone can do when someone asks a question like this is post our own personal experience and leave it for the OP to decide. We aren't suppliers, don't make a commission or kickback. I'm not personally invested in anyone elses choice but my own.

Since I've started vaping in January, I've bought a total of 6 ego kits plus additional batteries. Two for neighbors, one for a sister. 4 Rivas, one Joye, one Smoke Tech. Except for a recent battery issue with the MV battery- needed to be adjusted- have not had any problems with any. My original Joye batteries lasted about 6 months. Two or the original Riva batteries are still going.
For a $30 kit, no complaints at all.

My husband has killed 3 Riva batteries over the past 5 months, but he's extremely hard on equipment. I can't count the number of times I've seen him drop them, yet he insists he never has. The paint is coming off all his black batteries, they look like they've been through a war; however, he has two eGo passthrough batteries and they are still running - he doesn't use those as often as they are a little bit longer.

Yea, one thing I DO know is that batteries don't like to be dropped.

I guess it's been about 4 months that I've been vaping now. I have an eGo kit, a Riva kit, and a little 510 kit. So far, one Riva battery died. It died 1.5 months after I bought it (from Liberty Flights - 2 month warranty on batteries), and they replaced it right away when I called them up.
