Since I am about to buy some new batteries b/c my starter bat is barely holding a charge any more I thought I would see what the average life expectancy of a battery really is.

What is your device?
How often do you have to buy new batteries?

For me I am currently using a cheap 510 cig-a-like clone and the battery has lasted about 4 months.

I've been using a 900mAh ego battery for almost five months now. I also have a 1100mAh I've only used about three times-reason being I am just waiting for my 900mAh to die. I've only bought one new battery in the past year an a half. I had a 1100mAh before my egos, I broke that in like eight months. It really depends on how much you use it, how often you charge it, if you let it totally die out before you re-charge it, if you switch out batteries, etc. Always let it die out before you re-charge it, always have a back up. If you need a good list of batteries(a lot of vendors have knock off's that don't compare), let me know. I'll send you one.

EDIT: WAY too early in the morning. My eGo battery is a 900mAh, 510 threaded..

Could you elaborate on that, please?

When batteries first arrive do 10 cycles- use and recharge before batt needs charging. Every 30 charges drain the battery until it indicates needing a recharge. This resets the electronics with the battery. Try not to fully drain batts- not the end of the world id fully drained/ needing a recharge but helps.
I just received a number of Panasonic 18650 batts 2 weeks ago- did the 10 times cycle and the difference is very noticeable. Never recharge warm batts- allow them to sit for 30 mins before recharging. Never use a batt fresh off the charger- wait 30 mins. Keep battery and charger connections clean. Never overcharge a battery.
Realize also when they speak of batteries have a lifespan of 250- 300 recharges...one recharge does not mean "every time you recharge it".
Example:
I drain a batt to 50% capacity and then recharge. I then recharge that battery again when it reaches 50% capacity...these 2 recharges are equal to one recharge out of the 250- 300 recharges.

Lol, thank you. It's a 900mAh and 510 threaded. It's just a tad bit early for me. Thanks for the wake-up ha.

I figure that I will need to buy new batteries sometime in 2020, but I will probably by more long before that (just in case you understand)

Oh, and ShayBabe your eGo bat is 650mAh and has a 510 connection. (or is it a little 510 cig look a like which would only be about 100mAh)

Any specific batteries u recommend? Stay away from

For Mods stay away from anything with the word "Fire" in them. Only buy Mod batteries from trusted sources- lottsa knockoffs out there. As for eGo class/ style they're pretty well all the same except the Kgo/ Riva fires at a higher voltage- 3.7 volts.

The main thing with lithium cells is to never over charge or discharge, and not leaving them "empty" or full. Ideally they're stored at about 50% capacity. Not easy when you want them always at the ready. Just something to keep in mind if you have batteries that don't see a lot of use.

I think the "fully cycle every 30 charges" mainly apply to things like cell phones and laptops with more advanced power management. The cells themselves should have no memory.

In the long term, proper storage and a faster charger (within reason!) might be more cost efficient and less wasteful than abusing batteries to save oneself from 4hour+ charge times.

About every 12 months of heavy use. One of the big advantages to loose batteries like AW's. Plus they cost 2 - 3 times less. I'm actually at the two year mark on my Darwin batteries, which are still going strong.

+1

I replace my "big batteries" about once a year. I've given up on 510s /ego/ 14500s
