The main thing with lithium cells is to never over charge or discharge, and not leaving them "empty" or full. Ideally they're stored at about 50% capacity. Not easy when you want them always at the ready. Just something to keep in mind if you have batteries that don't see a lot of use.

I think the "fully cycle every 30 charges" mainly apply to things like cell phones and laptops with more advanced power management. The cells themselves should have no memory.

In the long term, proper storage and a faster charger (within reason!) might be more cost efficient and less wasteful than abusing batteries to save oneself from 4hour+ charge times.

"The widespread belief that lithium-ion batteries don't suffer from “charge memory” might be mistaken, according to new research out of Japan and Switzerland."

Interesting. Doesn't seem to be a huge problem tho, and they only mention LiFe cells (?). To be honest, there's so many different lithium-chemistry cells out there that I'm not sure what applies to which. I treat mine like I treat my LiPos.... carefully and at storage charge when not in daily use.

I've read about provoking a memory effect on lithium cells by repeatedly charging/discharging them the exact same amount. Not sure if that's what the researchers did or what... if they manually discharged through normal use or set a charger to cycle them for a few weeks.

I've had my twist for about 4 months now. I recently got the Sidewinder, but it doesn't give a strong enough hit, I think I need a mod with variable voltage. Any suggestions? I don't want to spend more than $150 on it!

Yeah, the Vamo. Variable wattage instead of variable voltage which is an advantage. 5 amp switch which will allow you to use any carto or atty on the market unlike the weak 2.5 amp switch on the eGo's like the twist. Batteries that cost $11 instead of $25+ (twist) which will save you money in the long run. The PV costs $40. With batteris and charger it will run you about $73 total.

Yep based on wv2win's reco I bought the Vamo and it is truly all he said it was going to be. An amazing PV at an affordable price with all the necessary bells and whistles. It REALLY does pay to heed the advice of Vets such as wv2win  He's NEVER steered me wrong.

Realize I'm not an electrical battery geek and get all my info from Battery University and the Flashlight Forum Guyz. I bow to them and appreciate all the information, charts and testing they provide us with.

Every battery I've purchased in the past year is going strong still. Including, chronologically:

1 - SDK
1 - eGo-T USB 650
1 - eGo-C Twist 650
1 - eGo-C Twist 1000
2 - AW 18490 1100
2 - AW 18650 2200
2 - AW 18350 700
2 - Panasonic CGR18650CH

The AW 18490s have the most cycles but the 18650 are catching up.
