How often do you replace your Protank heads? Any tips ?

I got my Protank mid last week. I have only been vapeing AVE 100vg e-liquid and don't plan to stop.

Yesterday Sunday both of the original heads had no flavor just plenty of vape. I was going to post and complain about not having any flavor but decide to wait till I got my new heads this morning and that fixed the flavor problem.

I was soaking the tank and dissembled heads in water every 3 or 4 tank fulls.

SOOOOOO at this rate im going to be having to be replaceing heads every two days ?

Any tips or advice on my heads lasting maybe a whole week im already soaking them every 3 or 4 tank fulls?

How long do yours last what do you do to maintain them?

1 Note: my first 2 heads I had going 4.0-4.5V
Now im keeping it under 3.6V currently 3.4V hoping they will not turn burnt.

2 Note: Not bashing the protank it works great and I would highly recommend you get one. Also Im using 100 vg dark liquid and am a heavy vapor I vape more than I use to smoke.

My first head was 2 tanks and I took it out and saved it in a zip lock. Second head is on its 3 rd tank. Different e juice on first head. At a dollar a head I might dispose, but decided to read about what other people do, like recoil and clean. See how it comes out.

AVE juice is good stuff, but it does gunk up gear.

Read up on re-wicking and rebuilding these. I just got mine in today, and first thing I did was pull out the stock wick, and put in hemp wicks. Takes just a few minutes once you get the hang of it. No need to re-coil, just replace the wick every few tanks.

Are you saying all the wicks including the one the coil wraps around. I think you are so I would just wrap the original coil around the new wicks do you have a link for the wicks you a referencing ? Also yes I have read up on re wicking and re coiling someone put up a thread about this yesterday. Thank You

Yes. Just leave the coil in it until you need to replace it.

I'm using hemp. It's truly awesome. Much better than the already quite good stock silica wick.

After boiling and drying, I take a piece of the twine such that when loose will fill the inside of the coil, put a little juice on it, and twist tight so I can thread it through the coil. It should make contact with the coil, but not be tight. Then take several individual strands to use for top wick, assemble and trim. Don't put to much so as not to choke the juice flow. You may need to experiment a bit here. More for thinner juice, less density for thick juice like AVE.

If you're using a juice that's prone to gunking up the coil and wick, I'd clean and dry-burn the heads every 5 or so tanks.

This the video that originally made me want a protank. I took out both top wicks as soon as I got the tank. Guess I thought more was better. Also I was always running 4.0-4.8 V.

This set of heads I left the wicks alone im running it under 4.0v at all times and I am way happier with the results.

By leaving the wicks alone and keeping the voltage under 4.0 on advise of someone who is a more experienced vapor than I.
I have achieved way better results this time around. Just my opinion I am way more satisfied with my protank this week.

I vape Boba's at 4.2v and I'm cleaning/DB'ing every two tanks for maximum flavor! Rotating through my 4 heads (two fresh heads always drying while two are always in use), and everything is re-wicked with bamboo. All 4 heads are still testing solid at 2.2-2.5ohms, been using them for over a week.

I use Kanger t3's and I always just rinse them under hot water after every tank. I don't use them all day but some everyday cause they seem to go through the juice fast. So far one will last me about 3 weeks. Also I try to dryburn about once during that period. If I try anymore then that the little wicks seem to just fall apart.

I pay about 2.30 for replacement heads so I don't put too much effort to keep them alive for longer then that. If they start to taste funky I toss it.

Sliding OUT the wick would probably be pretty easy. Sliding the new one in might be a problem. You might want to invest in some coil wire just in case and wind your own coils. You want the coil to be in good contact with the wick for efficient heating. If it's not weak flavor would probably be the symptom and the coils might run hotter and fail sooner without good physical contact with the wicking to provide some heat sinking.

There is no reason to buy new heads as you can rebuild these the same as you do a ViVi Nova.

I just rebuilt mine today a little higher than I wanted but came in at 2.7ohm.

I am waiting on my wire to arrive. I have silica wick on the way however I may just end up trying cotton cheesecloth food grade and plop that into a couple heads and compare the two.

Both Provapes arrived today, one right from Kanger (Leaked like a siv) and another from MyVape. Thank goodness the second one worked without leaking. I am enjoying it right now as a matter of fact. I love the snap crackle pop sounds LOL

I just picked up an small assortment spool from Micheal's. Per the thread "just hemp" http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/atomizer-mods/378875-just-hemp.html the consensus is from an EBAY seller, lovepetal or some such.

The size is not critical since you'll very likely wind up removing some individual strands from whatever hemp you buy in order for it to fit properly. Just eyeball the wick, dab a bit of juice on the wick and twist it tight to decrease the diameter so it can be slid into the existing coil. It will spread back out, and swell a bit overnight. It does not swell as much as cotton, so I find you want it to be just touching the coils once it unwinds itself. Then just use individual strands to build the "flavor wicks" AKA flow regulator wicks to suit your juice viscosity. Remember too, if you modify the draw to be less tight, this will affect how much top wick to use.

Bottom coils require a balance of airflow, juice restriction, and even voltage to perform optimally. This is why one can read so many varied opinions on how well this type of clearo works. Fortunately, Kanger has designed one that is easily tweaked if one is so inclined.

Probably overkill, but I use magnifying headgear to insure the wick is just like I want it. Helps greatly with any RBA. Course, I'm kinda old, so YMMV.
