How do you guys rewick without deforming the coil? Every time I try to pull a gunked cotton wick, my coil decompress, spiralling gets uneven diameters and I end up rebuilding.

What gauge wire are you using? I've never gone under 30g myself and even that won't deform. You may be using too much wick

If you are going to replace the cotton anyway, just dry burn it anyway! The cotton burns and then you clean your coils as above, all without touching the coil.

How are you deciding that you "need" a new coil? Is it breaking?

They almost seem to get brittle or will not hold a tight coil. And also after many dry burns and cleaning, they just don't seem to fire as hot and clean as a new one. I don't really mind them not lasting as I really enjoy building them.
