Well there are many debates on this on these forums. My own personal take on it goes something like this (realize I am NOT a doctor)

Cigarette smoke has 4000+ dangerous chemicals in it. That has been documented you can look it up.

Eliquid at least how I make it has
PG
VG
Nicotine
Flavoring

PG - has been used pumped into hospital air systems to keep down infections. It has also been used in Asthma inhalers for YEARS.
VG - used in everything from foods to cosmetics. What we use is food grade
Flavoring - are cooking flavorings we eat them all the time and chefs breath them constantly if there was a problem we would know by now
Nicotine - In extremely high concentrations is extremely dangerous. In the concentrations we vape provided we are diligent and not vaping too much isn't much worse than caffeine. There are studies on that which you can look up.

add it all together Is vaping safe? Jury is still out on it.

From my point of view it is one heck of alot SAFER than cigarettes.

share some thoughts and different theory how safe really is vaping in terms of inhaling vapor from PV's ..
:confused::confused::confused:

I asked my doctor this last week.

I live in a podunk town in the middle of nowhere, but we happen to have very good medical personnel here.

My internist was thrilled, and I mean thrilled, that I am 8 months off analogs. I even prodded him with "well, we don't know for sure about flavorings, etc........." and he just shook his head and said "NOTHING IS AS BAD AS SMOKING CIGARETTES.........NOTHING. Keep vaping."

I also asked my gastroenterologist and he said "great! Next time we do your scope I'm sure your esophagus will look better."

Hey look there are no guarantees.........but we do know that the cellular damage done by cigarettes is rather incomparable to just about anything else you could "do" to yourself. Really. It's because of the combustible nature of smoking. Do the research on exactly WHY smoking kills, and you will start to see this.

vaping is harm reduction, at least until we have proved it is totally safe. Right now, eating deli meat has been proved not totally safe for instnace, nitrates have been postiively implicated in cancers.......but not many people die directly from eating processed deli ham, compared to the amount of woe, destruction and absolute harm that smoking has wreaked on the human population of smokers.

Hey, if you can quit analogs cold turkey, great. I tried that twice and during the window of time was still at risk for going back to stinkies and I did. Vaping keeps me from doing that, so I will vape until I KNOW I'm out of the danger zone of returning to analogs.

I look at it like sex....Yes,,,sex.Abstinence is the only way to be 100% safe.IE quitting all forms of nic. intake.Vaping is like sex with a condom. I'm not as worried that I'm doing something that might kill me.But,in the back of my mind I'm still not 100% sure.I do know I'm not going to stop.

thanks for sharing some of your thoughts here in Philippines not everyone is aware about vaping PV's some of them they treat vaping same with smoking because the way we do it, thats why some of the vapers community here are promoting responsible vaping in the right place and we are hoping that they accept and just appreciate E-Cig as an alternative way to smoking.

haha nice comparision! Im felt smoking should never even be an option assuming if e cigarettes does not exist.

Hello Otepzkie,

There have actually been several case studies and research analyst looking at the nature and chemistry of vaporizer ingredients in the e-cigarette ( only four chemicals), as compared to the actual 5000+ different chemicals in the production of usable tobacco products in a traditional cigarette(analog). The nitrates and tsa's are the primary concern in analogs because the great majority of them are proven to be highly carcinogenic and detrimental to various organs within lab tested subjects.

The four ingredients in the e-cigarette are Propylene Glycol (usp/pharmaceutical), Vegetable Glycerine (usp/pharmaceutical), Food Grade Flavoring, and Liquid Nicotine (pharmaceutical grade) * optional ingredients (alcohol and distilled or purified water)

The FDA testing even stated that the levels of nicotine delivered by methods of vaporization in the e-cigarette are comparable in proximity to the amount of nicotine delivered using the approved NRT nicotine patch. There have also been studies released that state the common everyday foods and beverages like broccoli and coffee contain an inherent amount of nicotine, as well. Other studies have suggested that moderate amounts of nicotine in low doses have a positive effect in the improvement of memory as it corresponds to stress levels and cortical stimulation in the hypothalamus (controls chemical stimulation throughout the entire organ system within the body).

I apologize for the lengthy post and all the technical data.... But hopefully this gives you a better idea about the direction ecigarettes are going along with how far we have come. Hopefully, given time and patience... banded research will one day point out the outcome of longterm inhalation affects of vaporizer nicotine,PG,VG, and flavorings. I am hoping for the best outcome because only then will the stigma of the ecig be lifted ever so slightly and all these ignorant Btards will stop try to dictate the when, where, and how.

Hope this helps

Vape Happy,

 TOM

I'm very new to vaping. In fact, I started yesterday, and this is what I know:

1. I already FEEL better.

2. I can sit next to my asthmatic fiance with my PV and not bother her AT ALL.

3. Based on current research and testing, Nicotine on it's own and Propylene Glycol on it's own are NOT carcinogens. While the long-term effects of PG on the lungs have not been documented, I can see no way that Vaping can be anywhere near as bad for you as smoking.

In fact, after my first day of vaping instead of smoking, I came home, and after my fiance went to bed, I had a cigarette. I couldn't even finish it because it made me nauseous. The vaping took a little getting used to because while it is just like smoking a cigarette, it's not like smoking YOUR cigarette.
