how short do you cut your wick when building for the RM2?

I wonder if there are any benefits to trimming your wicks longer. The more extra wick there is, the more juice it soaks up, so the longer you can go without squonking right?

Another question is about wick density. Which one is better for soaking up the most juice? A densely packed tight wick or a loose one? thx

I tried the longer wicks. I use cotton. The ends of the wick stay wet but the center of the coil wick will still get dry and burn.

Much better to do the short ends of the wick and squonk a little more.

Also make sure if using cotton that it is not too tight in the coil. It should be loose enough to swell with juice.

I cut mine pretty short and make sure not to make them too thick. Check out this video that Statistic posted. This is really just a great video as a whole.

You just blew my mind for the following reason:

I now know how to link a youtube video and CUE it to a specific point.

I've been using organic cotton ball and cut the wicks real short.....vapes so much better for me using the RM2 with very short cotton wicks and oddly I don't get the taste of cotton I've experienced when I've built with more cotton.....I think at least with cotton balls less is best to a degree.....just my experience though.

Somebody here in REOville...I can't remember who...explained why leaving the wick tails long is a bad idea. Here's my recollection of that post:

Leaving the wick tails long will allow more drags between squonks, but there's a downside. Each time you press the fire button, the heat emitted by the coil will heat the liquid surrounding the coil along with the liquid that's contained within the wick tails. The volatile compounds that translate into flavor will evaporate as a result of the hot environment and will translate into a vape with diminished flavor.

Hope that makes sense.

EDIT: I think it was Super X who mentioned this.

Here's my typical setup :)

It's on a VV grand so I run a higher resistance coil and adjust the power to compensate / take advantage of all that surface area :)

On a regular grand I run 10 wraps :)
