I use natural and don't boil. If someone boils and it works better I'd like to know, I might start doing it.

So do I put it in the kiln first and then boil it? Or do you crocheting your ceramic too? I suck at ceramics by the way, it is one of the few mediums I don't work in.

The bamboo thread is just like cotton crochet thread -- only softer and more absorbent. You have the wrong picture of bamboo in your mind. This bamboo, at least. It is at Michaels....or you can order and have it shipped to Walmart for pick-up. You can get it at Hobby Lobby if you have one. It's really good for wicking, and I used it a lot until I got some ceramic wick. I'm trying the ceramic for awhile (The ceramic looks like and acts like silica, BTW).

Is this the bamboo folks are talking about but not linking to?

I generally swap mine out every two days or so whether it seems like it needs it or not. If I go much longer than that (I'm talking about cotton here), the wick tends to split into 2 pieces and the flavor and vapor drop off pretty drastically. I was traveling and not really vaping a whole lot and left a wick in for like 5 days. I was getting very strange performance when I got up one morning - no vapor, nothing. Took off the cap of my RM2, and the wick was in two pieces laying on the deck of the atty. It's so easy to re-wick a micro coil with cotton that I just take the 2 minutes and do it when I refill my bottle every other day.

Why do people take me seriously? Asking about how long cotton wicks last is a reasonable question, but wasn't crocheting place mats and tiki torches sort of an indication that I'm one coil short of an atty?

Yes...BTW, if you've never tried XC-116 or XC-132, I've got the good stuff from RBASupplies, and I'd be glad to send you a bit of each. You've done a lot for the community, so I'd be happy to.

How very nice of you :) I have no idea what you're describing. I was perfectly happy with carto tanks, Protanks and dripping attys, until the Reo snuck into my life. I have a lot of reading to do.

I second the ceramic wick, it is $8/ft but you only need 1/3" for the RM2. I cut the piece of wick, slide it on the coil winding thing-a-ma-jig,
wrap the wire and it lasts and lasts, have not had to change one yet. Put it in all my Reos 2 weeks ago. I do dry burn it if it starts getting gunky, but my juices are all clear 70/30's so they don't get to gunky.

BTW Ocelot, when you are done wicking your coils I would be happy to teach you how to crochet a tiki torch :p

You owe it to yourself to try the XC - 132 or 2mm. Stuff is great! Lasts over a month with no changes!
By the way I too remember the days of going to the pet store and buying the blue Fluval foam to stuff my blank cartos to replace the the the stringy polyester batting. Got a whopping 18 drops of liquid to soak up in the carto. That was hi tech modding back in the day!!!! :)

Ocelot, girl you should try some Koh Gen Do cotton from sephora.com.

It is very easy to work with :)

Glad to see you are really gettin after it with your RBA :)

I think it's more like Koh Gen Don't. They are too expensive, non-sterile and "medical grade" is meaningless, like "natural." I couldn't find any sterile cotton pads, only balls and rolls (except for gauze) anywhere.

"Intrinsics" (a product line by Carolina Beauti-Products, a subsidiary of Barnhardt Manufacturing) appears to be the only US made "medical grade" cotton pads available. This is the best price I could find:

Wipes - Esthetic, 100% Cotton, 4x4 4-ply, 200 from Intrinsics

To be honest, I seriously doubt sephora is buying Intrinsics pads when there are other options like this one:

Medical Grade Cotton - Buy Medical Grade Cotton,Absorbent Medical Cotton,High Grade Cotton Product on Alibaba.com

Ocelots like to hunt. Ocelots also like things that are round. Thank you for the suggestion, but I'll stick with my sterile cotton balls (which, of course, are no longer sterile the minute you open the package).
