How to attain a good throat-hit?

I began vaping a week or so ago. I saw some cheap starter kits of some off-brand at a gas station and picked one up just to try it. LOVED IT. Felt just like a cig so I decided to get myself something nice.

After a decent amount of research I decided on the eGo-T. It arrived today and the product itself is wonderful. My only problem is I cannot attain a good throat-hit and that is ALL I care about (I actually vaped zero nicotine with my crappy kit and STILL felt satisfied). All of the flavors I have are 50/50 PG/VG blends.

So I'm left wondering what exactly controls Throat-hit quality? I want something that makes me feel like I just got smashed in the neck with a hammer! Haaalp! Do I need more PG or VG or does that even matter?

You'll see different opinions but, I think TH is a combination of the heat of the vapor, PG/VG mix, and the juice flavor. In that order. They do make LR atomizers for those now but, try an 80/20 PG/VG mix first.

Now someone's gonna come on here and tell you I'm nuts. :D

You are nuts... but not necessarily about that.

Thanks everyone.

Any suggestions for liquid suppliers? The only good ones I've found are all 50/50 mixes. I know there's a list here somewhere but these forums are a bit hard to navigate at the moment.

If you click the "forum suppliers" button at the top it'll take you to a list of great suppliers! Personally, I've ordered from VaporBomb and Honeyville Vapor (they're super-new) and I've been more than happy with both of them. I'd recommend ordering a bunch of 5ml bottles from a supplier until you find out what you like.

I like USA Made Vapor Renu .

They've got a good price on liquids, lots of flavors, and lots of customizability.

I've actually gotten juices for maxed-out throat hit (Strong flavor, +menthol, +super aggro throat hit, +triple shot of flavor) that I ended up mixing VG into to REDUCE the throat hit.

Many of them let you specify the PG/VG ratio. Tasty Vapor does. Freedom Smoke USA does. Since you are starting out, if I have to recommend one of those, I'd say Tasty Vapor. Then you can get a 36mg flavor and the same flavor no nic doubler and some 6ml empty bottles. Why do I recommend that? Because when I started, I had lots of trouble determining my nic level. For a while it was 24mg. Then I had a dizzy, headachy, nauseous day because the nic was kicking my .... every time I touched my PV. Went to 18 and all was well for a while. Then it happened again. Now I seem to have stabilized at 12.

If you go that route, you'll have the ability to cut down the nic should you need to.

Well a few of the flavors are giving me a sufficient TH now. Think the atty just needed a little breaking-in. Still got some other juices on the way as I don't actually like any of the flavors other than for the TH they provide. Hopefully some brandy/bourbon flavor with some 100% PG cigar flavor mixed in will be all I need :D

These are flavorings for DIY but Decadent Vapours cognac has a strong alcoholic taste and my no.1 vape Habana Reserve is a nice cigar flavoring.

DIY is my next quest for sure, just need to get motivation to do more research. Those flavors seem to be right up my alley. Bookmarked~!

DIY can be pretty simple. At totally wicked they sell the platinum ice (I get it with the VG base) and the PG or Aqueous Glycerine (VG - again I stay with VG) and then the flavorings but unlike other single flavor flavorings - Nick (creator of DV) has many flavorings that are already in his flavors - Habana Reserve for example has about 20 herbs and spices already mixed in.

If you go to the chart - scroll down - here:
Platinum Ice E.Liquid Mixing Kit.

.. it gives you the blending formula for achieving the nic level you want using Platinum ice (54mg) VG/PG plus flavoring. I now have some of their 60ml bottles (that the VG comes in) marked at the exact levels needed to get me to my nic level - so now I just pour in the three components to those levels and shake. No syringes, no pipettes, no measuring other than what I worked out at first as to where the sharpie marks are on the bottle :)

What I did was measure the length of the bottle (the big part) and calculated the portions in the chart to the size of the bottle.

This may be the wrong place to post this, and maybe even a stupid question.....Is throat hit the burn/sore throat that I get from vaping? some of my cartomizer's don't do it as fast or as bad and my ultra expensive ripoff kit from the mall really doesnt do it at all and thats a menthal flavor ( I think its a rn4081)but my kr808d-1 does (most of the cartomizers anyway).....Also if that's what a throat hit is....How/ What can I do to reduce it?

Thanks in advance and sorry if I'm posting out of turn/place

Some people might describe TH as somewhat of a "burn" but it shouldn't be painful or make your throat sore. It's simply the sensation you get in your throat when you inhale smoke or vapor and it shouldn't last more than a second or so. The term 'hit' is perfect for describing it; it's kind of like getting hit in the throat...in a messaging way lol.

You may be having some sort of allergic reaction to certain ingredients (some people have reactions to PG), or your juice may have too much nicotine for you to use it as often as you do, or hell maybe your cartomizer is burning up. But no, it's nothing like a sore throat and shouldn't be any type of lasting or irritating pain. Though, I'm pretty new to this world, so you should wait for some more knowledgeable vapers to chime in, and if none do so it would be perfectly fine to make a thread about it. Doesn't sound very enjoyable.

Habana Reserve is on my wish list for now and probably some more dark liquor flavors if I find I actually enjoy most of them, like I do the tobacco flavors. Then the DIY kit will be next in line when I feel like coughing up more money. I found that vaporbomb makes a perique flavor and about crapped myself. Perique was my all-time favorite tobacco (fake perique blends anyway- I always doubted I had the real stuff) so I ordered a custom bottle of 2/1 part bourbon/perique at 80/20 PG/VG... and a bottle of unflavored 80/20 VG/PG incase I need to thin out any of these crazy flavors. Accidentally ordered 30 ml so should be set for a while along with my other eight flavors..
