I'd like to buy a some e-cigarette as a gift to my father as he really likes smoking. I heard that e-cigarette is harmless than normal cigarette, but i don't know anything about it, it seems there are different types of e-cigarettes, any body can tell me their differences?

yea find out how much he smokes, and do ALOT of research, and try to find one that is powerful because if you get him a blu or something that is not strong and dont produce good vapor, he will hate it, and will give up on it instantly and never try it again and always talk bad about it.. trust me thats how ppl are definitly when it comes to smokers that are happy smoking
Do your research ask questions and most of all when you buy him some e-juice to go along with the starter kit buy some at maybe 36mg to help with the sudden strong cravings
I don't know of any comprehensive threads about all of the liquids out there. It would be hard to do because new vendors and new juices from old vendors are coming up all the time. I would go to the reviews section and read the liquids reviews. That will give you some ideas.

Pick your kit and pick up some 24-36mg/ml unflavored VG (or PG). This will give you (or your father) a chance to get the feel for vaping.
General theory is we all self dosed on analogs, so only real difference in strength of the liquid will be in how heavy you have to vape to get the nicotine you did from the analog. I got the 36 mg/ml to make sure I would not be tempted to relapse. When I vape to much I notice it, but that was the point. I wanted something strong enough to do the job, not something I'd have to chain vape just to scratch that itch.
In the end it'll be up to him whether or not it's something he's willing to fit into his life. Remember it's not an electronic cigarette its a PV.......PERSONAL VAPER. No matter how you get him started eventually he'll have to adapt what he has to get what he wants.
Key is get him started and then help him if he's not net savy to come here and see what might work best for him.
I wouldn't start with unflavored, I'd get a few flavors for him to try. If he's not getting any flavor I don't think it will be a good test for him.
