How to determine when a thread should be closed?

I've been noticing that a lot of threads are being closed due to whatever admin deems that the topic should no longer be discussed. This confuses me, as this is a discussion forum, and threads could be reused by other members who have a similar problem. But if we're closing threads the same day they're being opened due to the question being answered to what the admin thinks is the best answer, within the first hour or so, does that mean it should be closed for discussion? I'm not sure I understand this process where the mods get to pick and choose when a topic has been fully discussed and can't be discussed any more on a board that is open for discussion?

many threads are close when they go out of topic or the discussion is getting to hot to handle IMO

Those I can understand and agree with. I just don't understand how somebody determines that a topic has been discussed enough, and nobody else should bother discussing it. I guess we could always just make even more threads and clutter up the board more...

I can definately understand how it can be frustrating when a topic goes way off course. I've got several long running threads I commented in that I can't get out of my "My Threads" page cause they're never ending, even though I have no interest in them anymore. But as classwife mentioned, old thread and OP moved on are reasons to close? I guess we're basing these on if the OP is still interested in the thread. If admin feels that OP is no longer interested, thread will be closed. If others feel like dicussing that topic, they should open another identical thread in order to continue discussing the topic? If old threads are being reopend (depending on the thread of course), then that means they obviously still have a use. If it was 2 years old and hadn't been touched in 2 years, I understand that, nobody's interested, close it out. But to force people to open duplicate threads seems to make no sense to me in a board that's already way over cluttered....

The OP being moved on...normally that thread is Why the OP was moved on. Like they were an unregistered supplier and that was a advertising thread. Spam doesnt always look like an incoherent Nike commerical.

Old threads, we really dont bother closing thread Unless it's been like two years and someone bumps with for no good reason. Which happens a little to often really...get a comment like "Me Too!" on a topic that is that old

Besides we Need new threads.
Ecigs are constantly evolving the answers to basic Q's are constantly changing...yall should know this. I bet what you tell a starter to start with today is entirally different then what you where told when you started. Was for me and a lot of you been here longer then I, hell eGo's wern't even an option when I started.

People are also more likely to read and get involved with new threads then the ones that are 452 pages long.

As to closing at the OP's discretion. It depends upon a few other factors but you can always ask.

I wouldn't say that there were any threads specifically that need to be looked at, and I have no qualms with or anybody here, was just curious about it. I myself pretty much only read what's in the "Today's Posts" unless I'm looking for something specifically. I just know that here lately I find a thread, I'll read through the page or two that's in it and have an idea I'd like to add as I didn't see it mentioned in the thread only to find out when I go to click on reply, that the thread was closed. Does this mean that all threads here will start being closed?

Sorry - I couldn't resist posting that.

Look, there are reasons that threads are closed - otherwise they are left open. You need to give us a link to one and then we can tell you why. As there are a dozen reasons or more, it has to be a specific thread to look at.

[edit]
And to make the point, I just closed the thread below this one. See if you can figure out why.

If it's ok having multiple threads for the same issue, then I have no complaints. I know most forums try to get away from having multiple threads about the same issue. Course, if it were really a problem, then we wouldn't have 10,000 "I'm new to vaping and want to know what PV I should buy" posts....
You also have to consider that the e-cig industry is constantly improving the product. What was relevant yesterday, may not be relevant today. New threads help to keep the answers fresh and up to date.
