Although MOST of the time they're flawless, when they're not, it's a real pain... and Win 10 / 11 don't make it easy to fix when the OS won't even start.

Yeah... Like everyone, I've gotten Hosed a few times by Windows Update. Something that really helped to minimize those Rouge Updates was to use the "Deferred Option" in the Advanced Settings.

Of Course, in MS's Continual Quest to Removed ALL User Functionality/Choices, they removed this Feature from the Advanced Settings. But if you use WIN10 Pro you can still enable it using a Group Policy.

Group Policies are Very Powerful Tools. But like any Tool, the More Powerful the Tool, the Quicker you can Hose Things Up. (Think of a 15 Amp Sawzall verses a Hack Saw with a Dull Blade.) Use care with setting policies Documenting EVERYTHING You Do.

And Above ALL Else. Make and Maintain Current System Images using 3rd Party Software. I like AOMEI Backupper but there are many others out there.

I would Never make Changes to my Group Policy Settings or do a bunch of REG Edits without having a Current System Image that is remote to the machine I was working on.

In 10, you can still "defer"updates for a while. Maybe enough time for Mickey to get the kinks out...

Settings, Windows Update, Advanced. :)

I believe you're thinking of "Pausing" or "Delayed Updates".

With Delayed Updates, an Update(s) are going to come thru whenever the the Delay Period Ends. Regardless of how New the Update is. With Deferred Updates, the Update has to have been released for at least as long as the User has it set.

The Concept is if I set the Defer for say 21 Days, then when a Feature Update is released, the earliest I can get it is 21 Days After Initial Release. This will (hopefully) give MS 21 Days a chance to pull back a FUBAR Update if Problem Reports come Flooding in for it.

Maybe you still have the Delay Feature in your version of Windows 10 in the Advanced Settings. But it has be gone for awhile in mine.

Win 10 Home, here, and you're on Pro (since you can access Group Policy ;))

Yes, it only puts it off, although various hacks are around to turn it off for good. For those adventurous souls who hopefully have a current ghost image :)

Then again, security updates are good. If they install.

This will (hopefully) give MS 21 Days a chance to pull back a FUBAR Update if Problem Reports come Flooding in for it.

Yup. That's the hope!! And, in my digging around the other day, there have been some on this latest round.

If you check the box that you’re on a metered connection then it won’t download the updates. I did that for a while at work when we had issues.

Yeah... There are times when you Want to just Not Have Windows Update.

Remember how in 7 you were able to click a Radio Button to just Alert you that Update were Available. And then you had the Choice to Install them or to Wait.

    That was a Nice Feature.

We just recently got new windows 11 computers at work. We are doing a big upgrade the beginning of September since we merged with a new company and have to upgrade our system and meet their cyber security standards.

I'm Not sure what to Think about Windows 11?

They say it is supposed to be Better, Stronger, Faster. But they say that about Everything that is New. Just doesn't seem like these New Releases have much Excitement to them anymore.

A new computer is always faster than an old one. To me it’s not that different. There are a few features that are neat but it’s basically the same old thing with a little different look.

Yep. Some "improvements" aren't. Improvement's that is.

Still 10 on my tower, both our laptops are 11. No, not much difference, other than the look. And, of course, a few new ways to do the old things. No pressing need to "upgrade" the tower, even though it's got more than enough HP to run it. (Although all the latest patch tuesday stuff did go on them just fine...)

Yeah... I have Windows XP on my remaining Tower. All the other Desktops are running under 10.

I don't use the Tower much. Haven't really for years. It's more of a File Server/Backup Server for the other machines. That and it supports a HP 350C Designjet. Which is somewhat difficult to run on modern O/S's.

I’ve used that sealant on my driveway. I got foam backing to put between the pads of concrete and put the sealer over that. It works really well.

Yeah, for the control joints you have to use a different sealant designed for larger gaps. And you need to fill the gap most of the way with sand or foam backer rod as you suggest. This is Sika’s wide gap sealant.

Sikaflex Self Leveling Sealant, Gray, polyurethane with an accelerated curing capacity for sealing horizontal expansion joints in concrete, 29 fl. oz Cartridge https://a.co/d/5kzgCRA

It was a couple years ago but think that was the one I used. I bought a bigger caulk gun so I could use the large tubes.

Yes. Those are the 29. something tubes. It’s thinner than the crack sealant so it levels quicker and better. Really designed for larger gaps. I spread some sand on the top while it cures just for color and texture to blend better with the concrete.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have a good bit of washer fluid and my driver side fluid squirter thingy is either clogged or froze. If froze I was wondering if putting a little bit of PG in windshield washer fluid would help it to not freeze inside the lines and squirters.

Then the question: if so, how much? I imagine too much would really mess the fluid up and make kinda greasy.

I have a feeling it's clogged since one works and it had time to heat up today with the engine heating it up from the bottom, but it was just a thought I had.

I'm not really serious but kinda sorta am.

I think it’s clogged too or some kind of breach in the hose. Takes a lot to freeze wishy washy fluid…like Siberia or ANWR.

I agree. Weather gonna warm up this weekend so I'll wait to check it out. Figures I had a Dr. appt on a day I needed washer fluid yet I haven't used my washer fluid for probably a year. So I have a feeling there's some crystallization going on on that nozzle. Should be an easy fix, but not in this gawd awful cold.

I'm not sure where you live, but if you can get the Rain X juice in either pink or orange, it works better than the cheap blue juice. The pink/orange freeze at much lower temps than the blue, plus they have some Rain X detergents and water resistance ingredients to help keep things clean longer.

If you haven't had to squirt for a while, the little hose might have fallen off the wiper jet. If you have an assistant, you can have them squonk it while you lift the hood to see if it's squirting onto the deck below the wipers and if you can see the little hose lying loose. If you don't have an assistant, you just have to try to squirt more juice and look for a puddle.
