How to get rid of smell?

No matter what you use, I'd say a couple hrs or longer, rinsing well afterwards and letting it air dry. I do use cheap vodka too, to soak stuff. I wouldn't use regular rubbing alcohol because it can damage any orings and things of that nature. It dries them out. Vinegar for smells and vodka for anything else. IMHO

Oh! And whatever you use, put it in a small jar with a lid. It is reusable. I've had the same jar with 2 inches of vodka in it for 4 months, works fine. You don't have to replace it because you used it. Vinegar is seriously cheap, toss it.
