I have several bottles of a premix menthol that I just love -- except for the VERY strong alcohol taste/burn I get from them when I first start vaping from a newly filled carto (at 3.7v). It seems to wear off after a while, but by then it is almost time to refill.

Is there a way to tone down the alcohol in the juice? If I leave the bottle open, will it evaporate off? Or, is there something I can add to it (VG, maybe??)

I don't know what kind of alcohol it is, but it is definitely STRONG and overpowering an otherwise very enjoyable menthol juice.

TIA,
Pokey

Don't leave the bottle open or it will all evaporate in time. The only way I know how to tone down alcohol in an e-liquid is to dilute. Add glycerin, propylene glycol or distilled water. Glycerin or VG will make the liquid thicker and give more vapor cloud effect, PG is thinner and adds some vape effect, and if you use distilled water don't use much. I would mix glycerin with 15% distilled water ratio together and slowly add this until you tone down the amount of alcohol in your liquid. If you dilute though you will be reducing the strength of the nicotine in Mg's slightly.

And, also reducing the flavor if I use "plain" PG/VG, right? Hmm....

I was hoping that by leaving the bottle open that the alcohol would evaporate faster than the PG/VG and flavor. Sigh....:(

Oh, well. Thanks for your help. I may still end up using the PG/VG and distilled water to dilute with -- I might can find a flavored version that would blend well.

Thanks again!

Are you sure you taste alcohol?
Are you sure it isn't just a strong throat hit that you are talking about?

Just have to check and make sure.
Nobody has ever said anything about an alcohol taste before.
Actually DC, I have. But it was a GOOD alcohol taste from my Whiskey flavor from True Smoker. Champagne and Rum are always good too. :toast:
But I'm sure none of them have real alcohol in them.

Here is the ingredient list I copied from Vermont Vapor's Menthol:

"Contents: Glycerine, propylene glycol, alcohol, menthol -
nicotine and citric acid may also be present, to varying degrees,
depending on the chosen formulation"

I am sure I taste alcohol. I drink, it is a flavor I recognize.:)

DC2, I am using 10mg , currently, and wouldn't think the nicotine would have that great a kick...maybe the citric acid? The menthol doesn't taste any stronger to me than several others I have tried... Maybe it's a combination of all of the above giving it a TH I don't recognize as such...Who knows??? I like the underlying flavor after "the alcohol taste" mellows out.

And, Houdini, if memory serves correct, Geoff at TV uses real Bacardi 151 in his Butter Rum (which is delicious, BTW). So, yes, some juices use the real thing!

Alcohol boils at quite a low tem though - lower I think than the vape temp which would mean, one assumes, that the actual alcohol 'boils' off leaving jsut the flavor. Maybe ou are super attuned or get the tiny bit that might be left over?I use the butter rum and others and some of the pills from the doctor I take dont work at ALL with real alcohol so I cant drink it :( Boo shame - my point though is I haven't had any bad reactions from taking pills and vaping..
I dunno - bit of a mystery :)

There IS alcohol in some of Tasty Vapors liquids..butter rum and banana foster's are two that I KNOW have SOME in them. I haven't tried the BR yet, but I DO have the BF and have never tasted alcohol.

I DID have an order from Americaneliquid for their English Toffee. ALL I could taste, was BOOZE. This is not a case of subjective tastes either, everyone at the Toronto Vapors get-together agreed, it was pure BOOZE with a TOUCH of sweetness to it.

Weird.

depending on the menthol flavoring used to make the juice many use ethyl alcohol in the flavor. many juices have small amounts of alcohol it is used to help dissolve flavors and as a preservative. keep in mind the amount of alcohol normaly used is very little about .5ml-1ml in 5ml bottle. it is normaly just part of the flavoring but some times with oil based flavors you have to use alcohol to make the flavor mix with the glycerin.
