Been doing a lot of reading and youtube watching, but still fuzzy. I like the Evod a lot, I would like to maximize the performance while still using silica wick. What gage kanthal and thickness silica wick / how many wraps should I be looking at? I have 32 ga now at 5 wraps which gives be about 1.8 or 1.9 ohm resistance. However, I understand that more surface area of wire will produce more vapor, so how do I get there? heavier gage wire? Thinner wick for tighter wraps? Where do I go from here?

You aren't going to get good flavor from silica no matter what you do (IMO). Unless you maybe use ekowool. The silica being used in clearos is very uniform and the strands are close together.

Think of the wick like a filter. juice gets sucked through but flavor molecules also get trapped in it and it "gunks up". That's why people say this or that device "mutes the flavor". No, it's not the device, it's the wick.

A homemade cottonball wick gives more flavor because it's not as uniform and the strands aren't as packed together. Therefore letting more juice through the wick. Not just through the wick to the coil area, but allowing more flavor molecules OUT of the wick.

Which is why I think a tiny gap between the coils would give better flavor than a tightly wrapped micro-coil. Not 100% sure on that though, just a theory, and probably not a noticeable difference either way.

Just something to keep in mind. One thing you could do is wrap the coil around the wick as loose as possible. Touching the wick but not choking it.

I found the 2mm hollow ekowool fits just nice in my protank and T3's. I just run a blunt pin thru the wool and 4 wraps of 32 kanthal gives me @1.9 and 5 wraps @ 2.2 ohms. IMO thast the best range for most batteries. The 2mm ekowool had performed beautifully and the wicking can keep up no matter how hard and long I drag on it. I've found when wrapping coils, the best tension is if you can barely slide the coil on the wick, almost wiggle it to get it into position.
