I apologize in advance - I'm sure this answer it out there someplace but I'm hoping someone will answer it here too.

I've DIY'd a couple of very simple flavors that I really like - a basic kona cream and some berry flavors. I'm using VG nic and diluted VG to make the juice. Using organic NF kona cream for the flavoring.

Though I really like the flavors, there's a harshness to the vapor (feel it in my nose) that gets to me after a bit. Is it the alcohol?

I've added a few drops of milk chocolate to the kona cream juice and it helps, but the harshness is still there.

Anything I can add to smooth it all out? I'm obviously new at this and have seen references to Smooth - would this work on coffee vapes? What to do for a harsh berry vape?

Thanks for any help.

I made a coffee (coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, and caramel) that was way harsh. A little Ethyl Maltol (EM) and a couple days did the trick.

Other things that help smooth out blends:
TFA Smooth
FlavourArt Vape Wizard
Some people put 1 drop vinegar per 5ml of juice.

For fruit blends you have similar options:
Try a bit of EM
Try one drop of menthol per 10ml (makes the fruit flavors "pop") (also I use a really strong menthol, so adjust to taste)
Some people use drops of lemon juice

Hope that helps!

You didn't mention what percent of flavoring you're using but sometimes too much flavoring can have a harsh, chemical taste.

Another thing to consider is your nic base itself . .some brands are much harsher than others. Have you ever made juice from your current nic base that wasn't harsh? I never thought there would be much difference between nic bases but I recently tried another brand from my current favorite (Wizard Labs) and was surprised at how it impacted my recipes and made them very harsh and not sweet. With this particular nic base - there is no de-harshing it . .better to come up with harsh-compatible recipes like tobacco, etc.

Now I've got an ultrasonic cleaner and it's not that it's a hammer and everything looks like a nail ... but ... if the harshness is a steeping issue (lack of) then an hour or so ultrasonic-ing might smooth it out.
