= either way
you working on the state capitals that rhyme?
i lost 1st place in trival game ($100) at Nicks in Bloomington IN, wife did all the baseball, made $50 @ 2ent

It's not "= either way".
Sqrt(4*b^2) is +/- 2b (and your punchline of "two be or not two be")
Sqrt[(4b)^2] is +/- 4b (and thus quite lame for a punchline)
The details are important in equations (and punchlines);)

DON'T see why you wouldn't take the sqrt of 4 in either unless you moved the word sqrt to after the 4 like an equation with the 4 outside the sqrt sign

Not to beat a dead horse or anything but... if the equation has (4b)^2 then you square both the 4 and the b and get 16b^2 then you sqrt that and get 4b. If the the equation has 4b^2 then you only square the b not both, then sqrt the 4 and the b^2 and get 2b.

Sorry all: this little back and forth has drifted WAAAY off topic. (but I don't want charlie to go through life solving equations improperly, could lead to horrible punchlines at some point):rolleyes:

What about Carson City, Jefferson City, Oklahoma City and salt Lake City? ;)
I've told that for 30 years since i lost the contest and the cap's with city names never came up, the Annapolis and Indianapolis has and baseball expert said they didn't realy rhym, but i don't know about the City's and the expert is asleep. I'm thinking they don't realy rhym either but it sounds good

Like i said "what's the sqrt of 4 b sq'ed just like it would be written and as long as we're only embarrassing Jeff and not delaying him it's OK

Jesus Saves...

Everyone else rolls 1d20.

(If you get that joke, you're a serious geek.)

YOU need to help me, i was rolling a 1d20 last month (i like the 3d4's does the e-ching too) and i think we're the only ones who get it.
I'm into math with highping  and missed the 5000

That battle for 5000 was the most fun I had all week (sad huh?)
Oh come on, wasn't the manhole joke fun?
No one, especially my 20 year old son, thinks the 4b sqrd joke is fun, wife doesn't care, pol sci major, you've made the 4b joke a little more fun than it was.
Keep it going, with chucks we won't flame

Ok but 4 b squared does not equal (4b)squared... You had it written right to capture your intended meaning... what I was saying was that (in the heat of my recent defeat by sinister), I saw it as sqrt(4b)squared.
Then you said they were equal and they're not.
But I should stop, as my wife already thinks I'm a geek. Now after this little banter I'm a geek squared. And all I need is a 1d20 and it'll be geek cubed.

you know that's what the flux capacitor is all about, magnetic flux is a cubic relationship, see how powerful the attraction of a magnet gets as the distance between them just gets a little closer? It's power is the cube of the distance like the power of a windmill to the blade di (that's why we have to make those BIG blades and they won't work for homes)

electric fields are a sqed relationship and to store it we put it into 3d things like capacitors and batteries. to store flux (a 3d firld) we would have to put it into a 4d container = time
