I just got my new apollo vv 1200 mah battery and smoktech dual coil xl's last week first couple of fills it hit great but now with 2seperate liquids and same voltage and battery charge I'm getting a lot of dry hits. I have tried filling with a syringe and also drip method both until cart was overfilled. I think I'm getting the cart good and full but I could be wrong. Ive filled until liquid was dropping out of the battery end and I have to blow quite a bit out of the middle tube. After I fill it I make sure to get the coils and primed and it does pretty good. It seems like when I don't use the e CIG for little while when I use it again I get a lot of throat/chest burn which I'm assuming is a dry hit. Can someone please help me my chest hurts.

To be honest, I'm not convinced you are getting dry hits. Dry hits taste pretty nasty, but you didn't mention that. You said that you're getting a burning sensation in your throat and chest when you haven't used your device in a while. Does it tickle? Does it make you cough? Is it a bit like the first time you took a drag off of a cigarette? I get that if I don't vape for a couple of hours - it's amazing how quickly your tolerance for the throat hit dwindles. Like StevesCVO said, back the voltage down and see if that makes a difference.

If your carto really is burnt, there's nothing you can do to fix it - toss it and fill up a new one.

First thanks for the replies. I have tried turning the voltage down and it still burns but not as intense and not much vapor. I will definatley try the drag without pushing the fire button. As for the taste I can't really taste anything when this happens, not the ejuice or anything really it just burns. If I keep taking small puffs it eventually stops but it takes about 10 drags or so until I start getting good hits again. I don't think my cart is burnt because I'm pretty careful about topping off regularly and when its hitting good the throat hit is very good and flavor is very good. Would it have anything to do with my cart being a dual coil xl? Its my first one and I'm new to vaping so I don't really know what I'm doing. I've been looking for some good single coil carts to see if they might be better. Any suggestions as to what ohm rating I should get. My battery is vv from 3 to 6 volts. Right now I keep it on 5 or 5.2 v with a high resistance 3.0 ohm smoktech dual coil cart

If you are a new vapor, coughing and experiencing vapor as harshness is quite common. This should pass over a couple of weeks time. Drink plenty of water as you vape to keep your mouth and throat moist. Keep some hard candy in your mouth to stimulate saliva production. The Pg and Vg in our juices absorb water from our tissues, and we need to keep that replaced.

I would strongly recommend that you discontinue using the dual coil carts and switch to single coils. My experience with dual coils was exactly like yours; after a few vapes I would get a burnt taste. Dual coils provide a warmer vape. You might be like myself and prefer a "cooler" vape. Switching to single coils did the trick for me....much smoother.

I'm assuming you are using a variable voltage battery device as you mentioned voltages. What ohm are you usings? I recommend using a 2.5 - 3.0 ohm single coil cartomizer for variable voltage. Guide to Safe Vaping - E-Cigarette Safety | Ecig Advanced Community Blog

Edit: As a new vapor, also keep in mind that we absorb nicotine from vapor differently than we did from cigarette smoke. Vaporized nicotine is absorbed in the mucous membranes of our mouth, throat, and nose...not so much in the lungs. Therefore, it's not necessary at all to inhale your vapor to gain the benefit of nicotine absorbtion.

Just draw on your PV as if you were sucking on a straw that is in a thick milkshake. Slow, deliberate, patient draws of 3 -6 seconds duration. Hold in your mouth a sec. Then either inhale, or just exhale it through your mouth and nose.

Okay. That doesn't sound like what most of us would refer to as a "dry hit" at all. I'm not really sure what's going on. Dual coils do tend to burn pretty hot, but if the heat was the problem it wouldn't really follow that the burning sensation would become less pronunced after 10 hits - in fact, you'd expect it to get worse. It does sound like you've got a pretty low tolerance for the throat hit (and single coils may help with that), but perhaps someone else will come up with another explanation.

if you are fairly new to vaping, and you aren't used to the throat hit yet (don't be embarrassed. honestly, it took me a good month or so to get used to vaping at 8 watt's on an RBA), or if you like to chain vape and some of the hits turn out dry after a few that are too consistent, why not try maybe a Kanger Protank? it's a bottom fed clearo. if you notice you are getting dry hits on this after a while, it's as simple as taking a piece of wick out (a lot simpler than anyone would actually think) and then you'd be good.

if not, since you have an advanced device, take a stab at a rebuildable atty =D they are a lot more fun if you like to tinker around with stuff. plus the flavor output from a well made stainless steel mesh wick.. oooommmmmmm, kinda hard to go back to anything else after those.

I didn't even know that 3.0Ω DC cartomizers were available; I thought that the highest was 2.5Ω.

OK, if you're using a dual coil 3.0Ω cartomizer on 5v, it's like vaping two 6Ω coils on 5v--your Wattage is 4.1 watts, which is barely adequate. I can't imagine anything burning at that wattage. Those cartos were designed for high voltage use specifically.[Those dual coils are very tricky, trust me.]

Are you sure they are dual coils? Is it at all possible that they sent you single coil cartomizers?

I personally believe dual coil carts don't wick adequately.

Cartomizer Anatomy.jpg

Imagine a second coil half way up the cartomizer shaft in the above diagram of a single coil cart. No matter how adequately you pre-fill a cartomizer, the suction created from vaping quickly draws the liquid down to the bottom of the cartomizer. This is why after a few vapes the top of the polyfill always looks dry.

After a period of vaping, the liquid gets lower and lower in the cart. That top coil is eventually going to be surrounded by dry filler and can then lead to something getting burnt. That's my theory, anyway. It's a design flaw.

Since I have switched to single coil carts I've never gotten the burnt taste I got so often with dual coil carts.

Katya, I tried to post the picture but I couldn't figure how on my cell, but the cart says smoktech dual coils at the bortom as for the resistance who knows. I bought them from myfreedomsmokes.com and they had an option for lr or hr and I got the 3.0 ohm resistance. From the stuff I read since I got them I'm starting to think that single coil may be the way to go. I've also read that single coil will burn less juice is this true? It does make sense to me but I don't know. Baditude, what you said about the dual coils not wicking very good seems to me dead on. Once I get it primed and am getting good hits if I leave for more than 10 or 15 minutes, its like I have to prime it all over again. I'm definitely going to find some single coils and see if that helps, or maybe a clearomizer or Atty, any suggestions for a noon would be appreciated.

Yep, I checked the SmokTech website and they indeed make a 3Ω dual coil cartomizers--for high voltage (6 and 7.4 v) vaping.

Single coil is absolutely the way to go. Just trust me (and Bad).

If you don't trust us, I can provide some links to more information about the Ohm's Law. :D

Yes, single coils will use half the juice of the dual coil, and will conserve your battery's life.

My best explanation of DC cartos is that vaping a DC carto is very much like vaping two single coil cartos at once on the same battery: you get more vapor (due to the doubled surface area of the coils) but no more warmth (due to vaping two 3.Ω coils).

If you like cartomizers, try a Boge or SmokTech, single coil (and maybe a carto-tank).

If you like clearomizers, they are all nice, but look for models with changeable coils, Like Kanger T3 and eVod (bottom coil), or Vision ViVi Nova or Kanger T2 (top coils). I use and like them all and changeable coils make life much easier. You may also like the new Kanger ProTank--similar to T3 and eVod in design, but it's made out of glass and has a 510 connection (like Vivi Novas and Carto tanks).

Happy vaping.

I've been shopping around for some XL single coil carts and if I get a low resistance cart, 1.7, would that work well with my vv 3-6v? Or should I stick with standard or high resistance carts. What I was thinking is that I could buy lr carts set my voltage around 3.5 or so and make my battery last longer while still getting really good throat hit and vapor production. Is this how it would work?

I run 1.7, 1.8 delivery devices @ 4.2 volts BUT it's a VERY warm vape and is pretty well the top of the range. 1.7 ohms is generally good from 3.2- 4,0 volts so 3.5- 3.7 would be perfect. Best is around 2.5- 3.0 single coil cuz it gives you a wider range of voltage. I found in my early days that dual coils generally give a very weak vape- low TH and vapor. I believe you'll find HUGE advantage to using single coils. Realize also most cartos are NOT the ohms advertised. I had a 1.7 that measured @ 2.2 ohms.
