How to stop flashing red and white LED indicator

I began to see red and white alternating flashing indicstors. I could not find any literature explaining this led pattern. I guessed it had something to do with the e-cig not recognizing the cartridge. I used a cue tip to clean the area inside the stem where the cartridge meets the stem. Once I did this the red and white flashing stopped and I was able to resume use.
