I have never smoked really and although I'm not the age of your dad, I told my parents I'm vaping. They are former smokers that think smoking is the devil and they were fine with this. I think you'll be surprised how understanding he will be. Most likely supportive. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. :)

I smoked from 19-26... My mom knew from nearly day 1, needless to say she was very disappointed. Both of my parents smoke(d) and both of her parents smoked. We watched my grandmother (her mom) die an extremely torturous death (battling to breathe due to COPD). She quit cold turkey after 40 plus years after seeing it. I wasn't so lucky. When I told her a few days ago that I had been smoke free for a week, she cried. She asked how, and I explained vaping to her. She was super excited and made me promise to try and convert my dad, which I will do in a few weeks when I head back home.

Best decision I have ever made in my life and probably the same for you. Don't go into scared of what they will say, be PROUD of your decision and confident you made the right one (cause you did). Your parents will be able to read you, if you are reluctant, they will be to!

Congrats!

i would hint at the idea that i'd chosen a harm reduction strategy with less known serious side effects than he's chosen that puts me in charge of how i choose to deliver my nicotine while quitting. then i'd let him know that any time he has an interest he's more than welcomed to try a few of my flavors.

you have the upper hand here. you can inform him how he can make a better, more effective choice for his struggle with addiction.

good luck and keep your head up.

P.S. my dad now rocks an mvp 2 thanks to me. soon to be my mom and her husband, too. ;) they're all 40+ year long smokers.

Well I told him! I started off saying I quit last year for some time. And he knows how hard it is. He asked how? And I told him about my vape :) He was actually proud that I took the initiative and glad. I brought it to show to him and he said "What the h**l?!" LOL Followed up by "Looks like something you smoke dope out of buddy" Haha but all in all im glad i finally told him. Thank all of you for the support! :)

Hey, I am so proud of you that you told your dad! And that it went well. Bet that is a load off your mind.

Thanks also for checking back in and letting all of us know how it went. I'm sure you have helped someone else who is in the same situation and wondering what to do.

Best of luck to you in this new stage of your life.:)

I've been following your thread. So glad you and your dad had the conversation. Us "old folk" aren't all bad, lol. He sounds very supportive and understanding, good for you (and dad). Giggling about the "other substance" reference, although it's good that you've got it out in the open, so he doesn't think you're vaping the "other" stuff.

I'm surprised and blessed that my mom (who doesn't smoke, but all of her children and siblings do/did) is so supportive of us making the switch to vaping, and welcomes it in her home. She pushing 60, and we've had several family members succumb to cigarette caused diseases. So it's telling that even the older generation can be understanding of how vaping can be a lifesaving experience.
