How to thin a thick base

Hi everyone,

I have 500ml of 50/50 unflavored base 6mg nicotine. I realized it is too thick, it must be more than 50 VG, I would like to thin it out with distilled water the whole batch before flavoring. What percentage of DW should I use not to lose much in nic?

There is some very good information in this thread about adding water to the nic base.I would be a little worried if the viscosity is off on your base though.Did you buy it from a reputable place?

Yes, you can add up to 10% DW, it may be the easiest way to thin your base. However, this will also change your nic level, and PG/VG ratio will be thrown off a bit.

I am wondering how you "know" it's not 50/50, I mean if the margin is so wide, I'd be concerned that either I accidentally ordered all VG (which would mean you'd have to approach your base quite differently, and/or the manufacturer/seller made an error.

I might get back in contact with them and see if there is anything they are willing to do. How they respond may also tell you if you wish to continue using them as a vendor and etc. This sounds like a pain and hassle, and not one I'd' be dying to "deal with" as it were, because you pretty much don't know what you even have. Going to make DIY a bit trickier moving forward, although if you feel comfortable thinning it, you certainly can do that.

Thanks to all, I bought 1 lt unflavored base 50/50 (so they claim) at EcigExpress, I have been always using this mix for years! It's the first and probably the last time I use this vendor! Their juice is definitively too thick, I am going to try to put 10% DW in the all batch left and flavor in smaller patch, we will see

I’ve used them ever since I started diy, have bought their 50/50 and it was fine, although I more often got the 100%vg. There’s not that big a difference in thickness, I thought, having had them side by side.

Personally, I’ve never had an issue with any order, but it wouldn’t hurt to contact them and see what they can do to sort it out. See how their customer service is. They have a lot of flavors and labware etc that’s hard to find elsewhere at the price. I’d hate to see you miss out on that over this.

Sounds like a plan, I have read that 10% is pretty much maximum with 5% the normal. You should be alright with flavors and nic dilutions. I would work with 5 ml or 10 ml of the liter before final dilution, and test first. You could even try 5% DW.
