How would you like a USB pass thru/Mega E-cig/Pass thru power supply/and device charger all in one?

Hello all!

Okay, I have this portable battery pack I purchased from ebay of course for less than $20. It's cheap and does what it is supposed to. I've been using it for my usb pass thrus when I don't care to drain my cr123 batteries in my mods. I thought once I first got it in April, how it would be nice to just modify it to be a juice box since it was already a good candidate.

Well, I just never got around to it till now. I didn't realize just how simple it would be, but I went ahead and opened it and wow, piece of cake.

I added a 901 connector into it, now it can be used as a mega power supply for my atty or if the battery has gone low, I can insert the usb ipod charger into it and continue on vaping essentially converting it to a USB pass thru.

Because it still has a USB output, I can also use a USB pass thru of another model and feed off of the power source or charge my phone via the power pack and still vape at the same time!

I couldn't come up with anything better, (other than finding something with more mAh!!lol)

The battery pack is 2000mAh capacity which lasts me about 8-12 hours before needing to be charged...but then again, this is aproximate since I still vape thru it while charging at times.

Here's a link to the Battery. Portable Power Supply USB For Mobile Phone Iphone 3G - eBay (item 270315107164 end time Jul-06-09 19:21:12 PDT)

If you decide to go this route and find them cheaper, please let me know...I need to stock up.

Yay!!! Take the guessing game away and hit the battery check button to find out how much juice you have left!!

I wish I had put the connector at the bottom...it would have not only made more sense to do so, but would have been safer in the event that liquid should seep out of the atty into the charger inputs. But I'll do that on the next one.

I would have shown you the innards...but I glued the case shut because I broke one of the latching clips trying to figure out how to get it open.

I also left the voltage output at 5.5v...actually, it's only 5.2, so the listing lied a little. I prefer the hot and harsh throat hits.

Also, for those who may be concerned, it is PCB protected....in fact I think that it may be a little too sensitive. It has a safety shut off which happens sometimes when inserting a usb device or pass thru. Only way to get it back on is to insert it into the charging port so that the safety feature resets.

That looks great. But what kind of cart do you have on the 901 atomizer? 401? I'm not thrilled with the 901 tip. I Like the round mouthpiece better. I guess there is probably a thread on that somewhere.... off to cart mods.
The cart is a janty duracart from vaporguys...when they had the empty cartridges, but I don't see them there anymore.

I would like it very much!! Will you be selling them? If so, how much? Also, I vape a 510, could you make one for the 510? Please please pretty please.
Sorry, I won't be selling them. When I get more of these battery packs in, if someone hasn't already posted a how to. I'll demonstrate the steps. It's extremely easy. Shouldn't be more than 5 minutes if you have a connector ready to go.

Great mod, dedmon! Thanks for sharing!
I'd like to do it, but (not being a fan of the hotter harsher hits) I'd like to cut the voltage to the atomizer to around 4 volts. Is there anyone around with the electrical engineering background to tell me the resistor specs I would need? (been a while since high school electronics...)
Thanks again.

I'm not sure how to and what to use to reduce the voltage. I do know that the battery pack with in the housing is a 3.7v~4.2v peak battery that's amplified on it's way to the USB out. You could just wire it directly to the battery wires or solder before the amplifier. The battery itself is protected, so I don't see the harm in soldering it directly to the output of the battery...but I'm no expert....I'd PM kinabaloo, he seems to be the circuit board guru.

That's cool. How long does it take to charge and how long can you vape on a charge?
It takes about 2 hours to charge...At least that I can remember. You can still use it while it's charging so, it hasn't been a big concern for me. I vape heavily, so the longest I've been without having to charge it was about 8 hours. I'm certain I could have went longer, since the checker still showed a dim 50% light status. Once it's on the 20%, it's pretty worthless to me to continue to vape on, since the hits are significantly weak.

Perfect, thanks. I wasn't sure if the battery was putting out 5 volts or stepping it up for USB.
Do you have any pics with the jack in place? You mention that a 901 battery will fit in it - did you just hardwire a 901 batt inside the housing? If so how did you mount it in the case?

Thanks for your help!
John.

I was just merely stating the room available in there. I only used the brass connector from the 901. But, if one desired, there is enough room to telescope an ecig out of it. Unfortunately, I don't have pics of the connector in place. I dismantled it to customize the housing.
