Hi All,
My name is Simon and I've decided I want to have a serious attempt at replacing cigarettes with vaping. I've been a 20 a day smoker for just over 25 years and I think its time I tried to kick these things!

My wife gave up smoking about 18 months ago and I tried to go cold turkey but I went a little mad trying :( and started smoking again. I have to say I'm getting really sick of smoking, the smell, the health concerns, the cost etc. and I really want to try vaping as a much safer alternative.

My main question is regarding what I need to get started. I've decided on the joyetech Ego starter kit in the link below:

Joyetech eGo-C Starter Kit 1000mAh - Mt Baker Vapor - Electronic Cigarettes

I guess what I want to know is do I need anything else apart from what's in the kit? Any recommended spare parts I should get?

The only other question I have is what do I need to take with me when I go out with an e-cig? Spare battery, spare juice etc. ? Anything else I should carry on me?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm a total noob to all this and find some of it a bit confusing lol.

Cheers
Simon

Welcome and congrats on your decision. I can only tell you what has made my switch a success, I smoked for 40 years, 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day. First I think you are wise to have made the purchase you made rather than going with the smaller slim batteries. They just weren't enough for me. I believe another important thing is the nicotine level you begin with and encourage you to begin with no less than 18 ml and maybe even 24 ml. I have dropped from 18 to 12 after 7 months, analog free. I hope to drop to 6 then 3 then o, but 12 didn't cut it when I first began. I always keep extra liquid and an extra battery with me, even when I don't think I will need it because I worry my battery will quit on me, I will lay it down, drop the damn thing in a toilet or whatever other hazard may exist. Hey I am still addicted to nicotine, just a form that allows me to be able to breath again!

Simon go with the "twist" version. It will really be worth it to you In the long run. Withe the twist it has the variable voltage setting, so you can change the power to your likening, ie: hard hit, soft hit or in between.
If you go with the normal eGo you will most likely upgrade at some point anyway. Start there, don't make the same mistake I did.

Nice kit. Mt Baker is a great store also, real good juice prices.
You should have a few juices to make sure you have something you'll like.
Wife and I started on the Volcanoecigs Inferno kits.
Good quality and company! They still work just fine!

It IS a bit confusing to start. I think the kit you are starting with should get you going, but I might recommend a few cartomizers or clearomisers to see what you prefer. From the same site, you could get a couple of these SmokTech Dual Coil Ego Cartomizer and these Smok ReDux CE5 (7 colors) - Mt Baker Vapor - Electronic Cigarettes to get you started. Plus, get a couple of different kinds of ejuice to see what you like. A lot of people think they want tobacco flavors when they first start, and then find out that's not what they like at all, so definitely order a non-tobacco flavor or two. You may want to start with 24 mg juice, and then move down to 18 or 12 once you are off cigarettes, or even move up to 36 mg if the cravings are strong.

Good luck! And check back here at ECF often, or whenever you have questions, because this place is an awesome resource full of wonderful, supportive people who want to see you succeed!

If I had started vaping with your proposed starters kit, I would have failed. Sorry, there are better, easier ways to start vaping than what that kit provides you.

Your kit comes only with tank cartridges as the juice carrying devices. That system is old school and flawed, and not recommended currently. There are far easier methods for a beginner.

Personally, I don't like starter kits. They often include parts or pieces of equipment that I would find not useful (like yours), or include non-brand knockoffs of the better quality products. Joye happens to be a good brand, but I'm not a fan of the tank cartridges in that kit.
____

I try to help a lot of beginner vapors here on ECF. I try to share my knowledge learned in my 10 months of successful vaping. I made a picture dictionary of the more popular juice carrying devices that go on top of batteries:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...minology-carto-tank-what-lol.html#post7562212

I have also put together a recommended, ideal starter kit of my own. I provide a selection of two variable voltage battery brands that will together last an entire day. A charger for the batteries and the option to get a wall adaptor to use the charger when not near a computer.

I also provide a selection of two easy to use juice carrying devices and two e-juice vendors that offer sample packs to try before buying larger quantities, therefore not wasting money on flavors or larger bottles that you may not like.

The gear is manufactured by widely recognized brands like Joye, Vision, and Kanger. This setup requires ordering from two online vendors. The prices are very reasonable and the vendors are well known, respected, and approved by ECF.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/369128-what-kit-start-2.html#post8306912

The above set can be had for under $100 and although more than the kit that you had picked out, is much more likely to provide success for you. You may not think to desire variable voltage at first, but the difference in price for it is not appreciably more and will in the end run last you longer and allow you to skip a step in the typical vaping chain.

Good luck and happy vaping! :vapor:

Get a VV ego with pass thru (no need for a charger then, and can vape while charging)
get some clearomizers (stardust or T3s would be great)
get some eliquid (flavors!)

done! nice simple starting 'set'
super easy to work with, while out (at 1st) you prob wont need to bring extra of anything, when/if you do, just prefill another clearo and switch it out when needed

So many ways to do things, you just have to find whats best for YOU. i think what i have listed is the simplest setup with a great long term application

good luck!

Hi All,
My name is Simon and I've decided I want to have a serious attempt at replacing cigarettes with vaping. I've been a 20 a day smoker for just over 25 years and I think its time I tried to kick these things!
My main question is regarding what I need to get started. I've decided on the Joyetech Ego starter kit in the link below:

Hello Simon. I've had that exact starter kit, minus the 1000mah batteries. Here is what i"ve learned.

1) Ask the seller to upgrade your GENUINE Joyetech batteries to 1000mah twist. This twist feature will introduce you to vv (variable voltage). This allows you to "turn up the heat" and get better throat hits. You'll appreciate this feature later. Start at 3.2 volts when you first start vaping. Find out the the ohms are for your atomizers. The general rule is to add 2. voltage = omhs + 2. Don't worry, just ask questions when you need it.

2) You will not like the leaking coming from the included mouthpiece/tanks. This is a design flaw courtesy of Joyetech. They will leak all around the mouthpiece, and inside the atomizer housing unit. To avoid this entirely, keep the Joyetech atomizer units (base, atomizer core and cover) as backups. Keep using the 1000 mah twist batteries.

3) Buy several (i bought 3) Kanger T3 bottom coil clearomizers. Get the 2.4-2.5 ohms version, and buy a pack of 5 T3 bottom coils for around $12. It's worth it, trust me. These are great! The T3 will set on top of your Joyetech twists. As long as you keep the bottom coil screwed on tight, and DO NOT unscrew the T3 unit off the battery by twisting the plastic tank to the left, you "should" have no leaking issues from my experience. I own three Kanger T3 units, and I have had nothing but wonderful vaping magic from them.

Kanger T3 clearomizers from here: 1 Kanger T3 Bottom Coil eGo CC Changeable
Kanger T3 bottom coil replacements: Kanger T3 Bottom Coil Units

DO NOT buy the 1.8ohms replacements. Get the highest 2.5ohm. This will allow you to turn up the voltage on your twists, without blowing a coil. More on that later.

I guess what I want to know is do I need anything else apart from what's in the kit? Any recommended spare parts I should get?

If you're going to stick with this kit for a while, I highly recommend getting the PCC from Joyetech:

Personal Charger Case for eGo/eGo-T/eGo-C

This is a case charger, and will allow you to charge your 2nd battery (on the go), and carry a total of three Kanger T3 clearomizers with different juices. This is my current setup.

At home I recommend using the Joyetech charger that comes with your starter kit. It's worth having two of those also, one at work, one at home.

Joyetech eGo Fast USB Charger
Joyetech USB to Wall adapter

You'll need both of those to charge in a wall unit.

Use PCC charging in between when needed, like on the road, or an emergency charge when you're not at home or work, like traveling. The PCC has a 2000mah battery that can probably charge 2 1000mah twists.

The only other question I have is what do I need to take with me when I go out with an e-cig? Spare battery, spare juice etc. ? Anything else I should carry on me?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm a total noob to all this and find some of it a bit confusing lol.

Cheers
Simon

Just the PCC quoted above. I take that with me when I go out. Just make sure your PCC is NOT your main charging base for your batteries, since it is a battery itself, it requires a charge when empty, and you don't want a dead PCC battery when you're out and about.

Also, it's worth getting the XL case from Joyetech. http://vaporcrave.com/Cases-Accessories/Joye-eGo-eGo-T-Cases-XL-p101.html

You can carry extra batteries, T3s, charging cables.. whatever you want. I carry this in my backpack for those "just in case" moments. Always make sure you have backups for ALL your hardware, batteries, clearomizers, and clearomizer coil units, as I listed in my previous post. You never want to be without your nicotine ya know?

You'll also want one of these, to make refilling the Kanger T3s easier and less messy. It's possible to refill them with out, but it makes it 100% easier.

Hello Simon and welcome from a fellow noob. I initially looked at the same type that you are considering, and then followed advice here to upgrade to the Twist model battery. You may not use it at first, but you will definitely be interested in it later as you try out different cartomizers, clearomizers, and tanks. I personally bought a few of each just to try out - I don't consider it a waste. Others can give you great insights into what works and what to avoid, but they can't tell you what will work for you. I also suggest getting samples of as many flavors of juice as you can - I thought I would only need a few, and I loathed all but one that I initially purchased (even with research). I would also suggest researching as much as you can, keep a list of possibilities, and cross off items as you eliminate them for a first purchase...that helped me limit my initial expense. You will want to order additional/different items later, but I would go for having a working kit in your hand for now. You can add bells and whistles once you know that vaping is for you. I would say it is essential to have at least 2 batteries (charge one, use one). Happy hunting!

Thanks for all the info guys it's much appreciated! The clearomizers seem to be very popular so apologies for one more noob question: If I get the ego twist batteries and the clearomizers does this constitute a working e-cig or do I need an atomizer section as well?

The clearomizers don't need an atomizer section....they are all-in-one. I'm using the mini vivi nova and love it; they have replaceable parts.

The clearomizers have a coil unit, that has a wick and wire that heats up. Clearomizers don't use atomizers. But if you're getting the Joyetech starter kit, it comes with an extra pack of 5 proprietary atomizers for its atomizer base and housing unit. These are good for backups in case your T3s fail, but you don't have to get them. You can build your own starter kit from the information here.

OK, I've got this stuff in my cart and ready to pull the trigger ( Ialso have some e-liquids in the cart) anything else I need to get going or you can recommend?

http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af214/esciboi/ecig.jpg

1) You did not get the 1000mah batteries. These will last longer than the 900mah, but the 900mah are a little shorter. Your battery run time will be a little shorter with 900mah.

2) You're missing the blunt syringe I recommended. It's only 1.99 or something.

3) The PCC case is highly recommended to carry your stuff around. I see you didn't get that. Maybe later? :)
