I bought peaches the other day that were "local". I'm not sure what that means, given that they are peaches and over 90% of the stone fruit/berry crop was lost in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Indiana this year due to the early heat wave in March and immediate return of cold weather. The earlier ones I got were 1/2 normal size and not very sweet. These, though are like a dream. Maybe the fruit set later and they had great irrigation......

Local could be South America. Were there any stickers on them anywhere? It seems lately the peaches in the store are either rock hard, and never really ripen well, or bruised and squishy.

I know what you mean - often you can't be sure. These do have "USA" on the sticker. Too late for Georgia peaches. Northwest, maybe? Lots of berries there but I've not seen peaches from there. All I know is I'm going to eat as many as I can!

Lisa, next Wednesday come to Highwood, IL and go to the Farmer's Market. One of the vendors there has fresh produce because they have a private farm. Long story short, they had the BEST peaches, I've had in my life. You honestly need to go. I normally don't love peaches, but I loved that one. Big. Juicy. Sweet.

Well it is hot as all get out in Houston, but at least we have been getting some rain. A lot better than last summer when TX had severe drought and fires galore.
Just heard on the national news that we have had the hottest July ever on record.
At least my plants are ok for the most part.....just no okra. The plants are growing tall, but not producing a thing yet.

HOT here! Oh man working outside in a 'garden center' at a big box store ( not to be confused with a nursery ) with no air flow and very high humidity cus we are watering the plants like crazy, I was so,so glad to get outta there today at 4pm. Supposed to be the same tomorrow, 102-105 degrees, ugh.

i just checked on the weather channel, 105 where I live and 57 in San Francisco, about a hour and a half driving distance, around 100 miles, good grief!
