For everyone that thinks you dont need that button mod, get a penny and push it in sideways to touch the bottom of the battery and the side of the mod to see what your missing. good lookin out on that idea Mickey_Star. i should have mine in the morning.
Right. No matter how you get there, solid brass or gold contacts throughout will make most any devise stand up. Just a brass screw will do the trick. Springs are great if you like misfires, twitchy buttons and voltage drops in you mods. I really like the Elite. It just needed a tweak or two to shine like any high end hybrid mod I've owned.

It's XS-18 silica sleeving. I think it's basically hollow ekowool, because it behaves much more like ekowool than
silica; it's very resistant to burning and it stiffens when heated. It's a big help to me because, as you can see
from virtually every single build of mine, I'm quite the sloppy coiler.

I'm sure there are other places that have it but I've been getting it from kidneypuncher.com.
I use it on SS mesh and SS cable wicks. Almost makes things idiot proof. So this idiot
gives it a big thumbs up. ;)

zipflint what is that you have wrapped around your mesh? Give me the lowdown...

so i made a piece for the button out of steel. one minute its amazing the next it miss fires and the button gets hot. i cant see why i would have a short. i`m not sure whats going on. i did my best to get the button apart. i got that copper flat head screw backed out some but it wont come all the way out. i`m pretty much lost.

got it apart. i`m thinking it may have something to do with all the thread lock that was on the threads. i`m just giving a heads up. if you pull this apart you will need to use pliers to hold your switch and it dont look so pretty afterwords. i`m not sure what i`m gunna do with the switch but i dont care for the spring.

I figured it out. in the middle of the pictures youll see the brass part thats next to the spring. its a brass black color. well, the black is some kind of soot thats not making contact. just tryed it with the spring for the battery too. the spring sucks.

almost forgot. works like a charm now with the Mickey_Star fix.

Soooo.....I did a quick search through this thread but didn't see any drip tips that caught my eye. Anyone got any suggestions? I don't think I'm going to de-anodize the entire device, so something that's silver anodized would be cool. Almost anything would be better than the one it came with.....

I know there are a brazillion silver anodized drip tips out there. I just want to see what you guys have/are getting.

Ok I get it. Keeps you from having shorts between the coils and mesh. Slick idea. I might give that a shot with some SS cable. Does it taste funky? Excuse me if I'm jacking the thread with a wick question.

I don't detect any change in flavor whatsoever, but my taste buds are not the greatest. 2+ years of weekly chemo will do that.

I've only had the Elite for a week, but I have not gotten a hot button with or without the spring. I'd clean the contacts and pull the battery spring up a little bit to make it stiffer. It might have compressed and is fugging up the connection.

My Elite was flawless till last night it was misfiring and my button was getting hot also. Mickey_Star has your button gotten hot on you with the modded button, mine it only gets hot when misfiring. Do you think the modded button will stop it heating up? The-Jack your mod looks Great.

That's a bit too low-profile for me.
I like the standard-issue big Ming-vase type. At least, I think that's what it is.
Whatever came with the RSST.
And I like the ones that are sold with the Empire clones.
I've got a Stiletto that I haven't found a good use for yet.
Forgot about that one....

I know 1/16th will fit, and you could go a touch larger and still have some wiggle room.
Like this:
Wire Rope Wick 7x7 1/16 37mm 3 pack - Kidney Puncher

That might be too long though....you can always trim it but make sure you've got something intended
for cutting SS cable. Standard wire cutters won't do it. You need something....burly.

Thank you. I will give that a shot with the wire rope. Which diameter wire rope would fit in the Elite's wick?

If you want some ming style tips, FT has SS for $2. They also sell 5 for $10.

You can also get silver aluminum for $1.

TheJack you all good over there or is your button still heating up? Thanks for breaking down the button assembly. I hadn't gone that far and I wondered what it looked like in there. I'm guessing you were one of those kids who took their toys apart.:)

Its all good now. hits like a champ. once i removed that black crap where it made connection it was golden. it would be nice if a replacement button is made. one that comes apart without destroying it. i`ll make something sooner or later to my liking.

i was the kid that fixed the neighbors kids toys. i also like this mod a lot so i was determined. this is my second mechanical in 3 months and i wasnt impressed by the KTS. ended up selling it. this Elite is a keeper.
