After getting promising results with the plastic straw mod I thought I'd do it "right" with some surgical steel tubing. Amazon has this stuff at $8 for a 5' length:

Amazon.com: Stainless Steel 304 Hypodermic Tubing, 15 Gauge, 0.072" OD, 0.054"…

They sell other sizes but I figured this was about right. The free shipping on my prime account led me to wonder what kind of a loss they must be taking on a single piece order. Sure enough, this thin little tube came packaged in a clear plastic tube with endcaps, which was in turn packaged in yet another very thick cardboard tube with endcaps and paper stuffed in each end. Comical considering I just needed a few 1" segments. Total shipping weight, 4lbs!

I cut it with dikes, which compresses the ends, then shaved off the ends with sand paper to open it up and give it the taper on the bottom. Then cleared the shaving from inside with a paper clip.

I believe this is a perfect way to do the straw mod, and since it's stainless steel it is not only safe, but also allows you to leave it sticking out of the filler a little, for better wicking, without worrying about it melting on the atty. This should be standard equipment on all eCigs. At least something other suppliers should consider selling in pre-cut lengths.

Trying it out now with my DSE601 that just came in mail. Works great! I love the huge volumes of cool vapor from this thing although I must say the flavor is a bit weak. Maybe I'll try some stronger juice.

Thanks for the link, aphlaque_duck. That tubing is going to be useful in so many ways.

Waiting to find info on a certain jazz cd and I can probably bundle that, the tubing and other things for a free shipping. And agree, sometimes the free shipping is great for the customers but sounds insane for the vendors on single, inexpensive items. Got a box of Fluvals free shipping via Amazon but it was FedEx'd to me. Painful on the seller's side.

Have you tried just using "Stainless Steel" steel wool for filler material? I have been using it for about 4 weeks and the last hit I took tastes exactly like the first on, clean and strong.
