This works great! I haven't cut the bottom of the filler yet to create the air pocket, but just adding the straw gives me so much better vapor and throat hit and I can vape for much longer before having to drip more. I used hollow plastic Qtip tubes for the straw. Thank you Opus and others for this great and simple mod! Now if someone would just start making our cartridges with this wonderful idea already incorporated...

I just wanted to bump this mod up. Great mod! I just tried it today and these are it's attributes:

*Lasts 10 times longer that using polyfill alone

*When you "top off" you're actually refilling the fill COMPLETELY

*The top of the cartridge (the place where it comes in contact with the atty) stays consistently wet

One of the concerns that have been brought up about this mod is that the straw might melt. It's my understanding that the bridge of the atty isn't what gets hot. The space beneath the atty is what gets hot. Correct me if I'm wrong.

But yeah, try this mod out if you haven't already. I'm getting wonderful results! The first page of this thread has some great pics of the process. I use a 510 and it's working wonderfully!

I've never gotten the straw mod to work right. It leaks every time I've tried it. Clearly I'm incompetent with this mod ;)

I know the concept works well, though. Sometimes I'm able to create a channel in the corner of my polyfil that allows air to flow up. I get better vapes and more efficient use of the liquid in the cart. But me and the straw... we just don't get along!

I've always tried it with the plastic q-tip "straw". Could that be my problem? If I could find a coffee stirrer I'd try that, but I never see those anywhere. Everyone has little wooden stirrers now.

Clever may be better than a hole in the side of the cart. Strange the shrink tape doesn't shrink with the heat. I stripped a piece of covering from a copper wire and am giving it a try.

I looked around for the shrink tubing (not very hard) but couldn't find any with a small enough diameter. stripping a wire:2cool:why didn't I think of that? thanks for the idea, I'm heading to the garage now to grab a piece. I'll check back and let you know what happens....brilliant.

I'm back. Put a new piece of the blue plug in, slid in an angled piece of wire coating along the side of it then was able to put 13 drops in without all the fussing about with my tool of choice (an old crab/nut pic. vaping away, we'll see how it goes. But already my juice tastes better with better vape.

oh yea, I had previously cut this particular cart down a millimeter or so in order to keep it from melting like most of my other mods.

Just have to ask this question, you take the straw out after you refill the cart, because the atomizer will burn that plastic straw up, what a stink you will have. This just for those folks who are not that e-cig savvy.

If the atomizer would melt that straw would it not melt the cart as well?

That wasn't a question.

The straw doesn't melt with this mod, but it COULD melt a lot easier than the cart since it's much, much thinner and a different kind of plastic. Don't worry though, you leave it in or else it would completely defeat the purpose.

I use a similar trick, but not a straw, just a piece of thin wire to push the padding aside and poke at it to let air out - in my case wire inteneded to be ab electric fence but, that's what i have, florist or fine hobby wire would be suitable too. Then no straw or anything left in the cart and, no trapped air.

Leaving the straw in the cart is what makes this worthwhile. It's not just for filling, it's for wicking purposes. You'll get more efficiency leaving the straw in.

I just modded my 510 cart I stuffed it with fluval using plenty all the way from top to bottom and I used a cut Q-tip for a straw. I made the straw so it's about even with the top of the stuffing which is just a little below the top of the cart. I got 17 drops in and they went in quick. It's wicking really nicely too. This is working pretty sweet. :)
