I live in North Carolina and some friends of mine were going up to NY to go to a renaissance fair and they were talking about buying a couple of dozen cartons of cigarettes to take with them to sell. I was wondering what the big deal was until I looked up how much a carton costs there. In NYC a carton can cost as much as $90. Heck, they are $30-40 in North Carolina.

I was smoking about a carton a week a couple of years ago or $120 a month.

Now that I am making my own juice, I will be spending less than $30 a month on juice.

Oh well, I am preaching to the choir. I was just shocked at how much cigarettes cost now.

And this is why the FDA et all are coming after vaping with such a vengeance. Its dirt cheap. They have figured out that, right now, it`s dirt cheap. No one can have this much fun in America this cheap. They will tax it, they will regulate it, and if you go underground, they will criminalize it. This is`nt about "Sin", or for the children's good. It a revenue stream, a revenue stream that needs to be milked, taxed, and regulated for as much as the public will tolerate, and then some.

When will people DEMAND a better quality of politician?

This is a revolution and we're part of it. Who ever thought that something would come along that smokers would leave their cigarettes for and it's dirt cheap and better than stinky cigarettes. 40 million people vape world wide. Smoking will become extinct like a dinosaur. Thanks to ex smokers. See how different it worked out in GB? They don't have BT in their country bleeding them dry while letting people die.

That is crazy:) I too am in NC and happy to be a DIY ejuice connoisseur and really loving the savings, not just from the old cigarette habit but from also the "gotta have that latest "premium" ejuice" phase.

I went to Atlantic city while beaching it up at the Jersey Shore some years back and remember going to a Casino on the boardwalk. They wanted 13.50 for a pack of Camels!! I was floored. I, of course, bought them but was talking to my cousin who lives in NYC. I was complaing to him about the steep price and he laughed at me. He said "If you can drive up a bunch of cartons to me" I'll pay for it all and give you money on top." I was so tempted.

I think we will be just as screwed in the UK as everywhere else. We are still subject to the TPD, this will open the door back up for BT & BP to dominate the market. In 10 years BT will regain the market share they have lost. Even if we do leave the EU the damage will have been done. Taxation is inevitable. The regulations are not about protecting people, lets face it if that was the case they would of banned tobacco products decades ago. Its about money.

    I'm glad you vape too!
Tell your friends that they're making BT and the FDA lots of money, so just keep on!

Just to be clear: The FDA makes $0 off of products sold.

Also to be clear: The FDA has no authority to tax ANYTHING. That right is reserved for: congress, states, counties, cities.

Yea the FDA is supposed to be there to protect the public. Yet, tobacco is still for sale killing people , and 0 nicotine e-liquid is deemed a tobacco related device and illegal. Where is the safety?

Those cigarette runs into NY are now pretty common with the price so high (well, even longer, as NY was always higher than just about everywhere else for many years). That, and the reservation smoke shops.

I'm surprised DIY is running you $30 a month. Now that I have everything with the initial layout, based on how much I mix, I don't think it all adds up to more than $5 a month, nic and glass bottles included. Then again, I don't make lots of different flavors, so it's not like stocking up many bottles.

I smoked rollies down here in Australia.
Dunno how much a pack of premade stinkies costs, but a 50 gram pack of rollie bacco was around $60 and I'd smoke at least one and a bit per week.

At 60 - 70 ciggies per pouch it was costing me at least a buck every smoke, and I'm sure it's more expensive per cig for premades.

So prior to vaping I was spending more than $240+ month or $2880+ year.

Right now it costs me about $5 week ($260 year) on DIY juice and coil gear.

    MASSIVE saving!! :thumb:

I use to do the same thing before I retired. I was an over the road truck driver and I would buy cigarettes in Carolina for my friends in california the price has been a lot higher in some states for decades after 45 years of smoking i've been tobacco free for 21 month thanks to vaping. I feel better and saved money
