Jeez, cryx, mine's almost three years old and I've never had a single issue, and I'm not easy on phones.

Did you let yours take a 30 minute bath in a salt pool? :) I put it in a bag of rice overnight, but it was full of corrosion the next day. I had to soak it in distilled water overnight, then in isopropyl alcohol for a few hours to pull out the water. Then buffed off the remaining corrosion from the boards, resoldered two surface mount connections the size of a human hair because the solder all blew out when it shorted, and replace the battery. It's a miracle it's even alive....

I remember now your post elsewhere talking about that. No, mine had no such fate, not yet anyway. I has been dropped many times onto concrete, smashed between my leg and a towmotor, gotten mildly wet, etc. They're tougher than they look. I love that friends with month-old phones have scratched-up screens, and my three-year-old iPhone's screen looks like the day I picked it up, and it's never had a screen protector on it.

Good heavens... a 3GS is only $50 now :)

Me too. My 2g is on it's last legs. I just spent 4 hours replacing the microphone. Had to solder the mic and surface mount the speaker to a new ribbon cable which requires complete disassembly. It worked until I reassembled, had to open it again. One of the surface mounts of the speaker pulled loose, and one mic pin bent into the other. Fixed that, reassembled, wouldn't turn on. The battery leads shorted and melted the wires. Amazingly, the battery wasn't killed. Wrapped the wires with duct tape since that fixes everything. Something in the screen connector is loose so I had to jiggle till the screen turned on, reassembled, works again. Here's to hoping the iPhone 5 is released early!

No, the miracle is that you could even do all that.

With a 2-year contract, yes. I'm probably going to switch to Verizon when the iPhone 5 comes out, because AT&T coverage here isn't all that great.

Just know that it will have certain limitations because of the network type. One that I don't use often enough to make a difference to me is that you can't talk and use internet at the same time. So like that ad where he's making dinner reservations online while talking to sweetie isn't possible.

Thanks. I love how AT&T is pushing that fact. "Yes, we have a far inferior network -- but you can browse while you talk!" I think I've been online during a phone conversation exactly once since I've had my phone, and that was looking up movie times. Since then, I pretty much just say "I'll look it up and text you the info", so I haven't missed it.
