Speaking from experience here.

I would steer you away from any genny-type RTAs (Kraken) if you are just starting in RBAs. Get a Kayfun-style RBA for your first RTA.

Believe me, there is a lot to learn and it will be a lot easier if you start with a Kayfun-type RTA over a Geney-type RTA.

A More experienced user (I think it was Rule61 .. can't remember atm) tried to steer me clear of Genny-style RTAs as a newcomer but I didn't listen. I have 4 Genny-type RTAs collecting dust now and am currently enjoying my KF-type RTAs instead. YMMV

I personally use a mod, and double check with a fluke multi meter. As long as you trust the multi meter and know how to properly use it, you'll be fine. I second staying away from top coil bottom tank systems. Genesis style can be a hug pita for a new builder. A magma, or as another here said a Kayfun would be perfect for a new builder. The down side to the Kayfun is learning proper wicking and some find it challenging. With the magma you won't be wasting juice as much through your learning curve. I would actually recommend an APO for new builders. You can build a single coil setup, and when your comfortable, move on to duel or quad coil builds on it.

Unless its a dmm you can zero out, I would go with a good ohms meter....dmms often read ohms high due to the native resistance of the probes.
All you have to do is touch the probes together and see what they read. Then take that number and subtract it from the reading of the build to accurately get resistance. A good ohm meter is useful, but a multimeter should be in the toolbox to use if for nothing else other than checking equipment to be working how it should.

Took forever to get a full charge not sure if it's because of the amperage or not usually right out of the box they're good to go!
