I had an old 401 atty that had been dead for some time, i tried the hot water, no dice, so i thought what the heck, and put it under a lighter flame for about 10 seconds. It totally works again. then i did it to a dying 510, and that one sprung back to life too, working better than the new one. amazing.

on the 401, i put the exposed bridge right in the flame for a few seconds, pulled away for a few, then back in the flame moving it around a bit, and yes, it did make some soot. i just dabbed the bridge with a paper towel to get the soot off. then i put one drop on and tried it. after seeing that it worked significantly better, i did it again. and better still. now the 501 is recessed, as you probably know. so with that one, i held the threaded end with some tweasers and held it open end down and lit the lighter. I moved it around some, trying to get the flame inside a little (this was all purely experimental mind you) i did this for about, i dont know, maybe 10 sec. or less. more soot that i rubbed off the outside, and q-tipped just inside. i dont know if there was any soot on the bridge, couldnt really see, but i dont taste any. I had tried the dry burns on both of these, it worked in the past, but wasnt working any more, plus my burn is only 3.7v (a higher voltage might have had better results. now im not saying this is the latest and greatest idea, but as a first experiment, it worked for me. im going to play around with it more when i have some more dying attys, but for now, they all work. bummer right! no more to test. (edit- i should also mention that i drip, so if you try this be aware that you might fry your wick)

I am only guessing ,since I personally don't want to flame my atties, but wouldn't you risk burning the wicking material under the bridge? I know dry "burning" heats up that material, but heating and actual burning are two different animals.

And the issue that I may see is future wicking problems,,, of course if you drip that wouldn't be an issue.

A few weeks ago some newbie in the New Members forum said this worked, and actually burned all the caked-on gunk right off his atomizer coil.

I remarked that this could be a revolutionary discovery, but nobody seemed to care, and my post was the last one made in that thread.

So this is the second report of this simple and miraculous technique working, can we get some people to start looking into this now?

lightgeoduck - your right, the wick is probably toast, but yes i do drip exclusively so that doesnt bother me one bit. on that note, people that use carts should not try it unless the atties are already on the way out. and obviously, this experiment i did is only effective if the problem with the atty is gunk, im assuming. im just a newbie messin around, and i would hate to have to throw an atty away. so far, i havent had to, started vaping in december.
