I feel like I need something "better" but...

I'm a brand newbie and I don't yet understand a lot of the terminology or science behind the equipment. On New Year's Eve, I went into my local Vape lounge and asked what I should start with. I ended up with a smok Ego starter kit. It works well, but now that I'm on day 5 analog- free, I feel like I want a bigger or better hit. (Does that make sense?) I feel like I'm not getting enough nicotine or something to give me that feeling of satisfaction these past few days. I actually wondered if maybe the juice that I filled with 2 days ago was incorrectly marked. I haven't killed anyone yet, so there must be some nicotine in it! :) I was smoking Marb light Menthol 100's, 1 pack a day for 20 years and I am using 12 strength for my juice. Is it normal to feel a little withdrawal? Should I step up to the next type of E cig? Some of the stuff like knowing how to properly prepare the wick scares me!
Thanks!
Danielle

Welcome to ECF RN76.

I am not familiar with your equipment, but might suggest your easiest, cheapest and quickest remedy might just be picking up a bottle of 24 nic juice (same flavor as your 12 nic). Mix equal parts of the 12 and 24 nic for 18 nic and try that. If that's still not strong enough, you could try it a 24 strength. I smoked Marlboro reds for 40+ years and was able to quit immediately with 18 nic. And remember to shake the bottles well before mixing or filling your tank. That may be a far cheaper solution then starting out trying different equipment. Let us know how that or other solutions work out for you.

Agree with olderndirt here! As a new vaper I would also say have a bottle of 24 around anyway because there may (will) be times where you're going to need the extra nic. You know that quick onset stress where you say "...God I need a smoke." Youll have it to get you through that.

Keep it up! You'll do fine!

what he said ^^^^^.

Try upping the nic first. Many of us (myself included) stopped smoking on equipment far less effective than your ego. It is normal to have some withdrawal symptoms...remember there are a lot more chemicals in cigarette smoke than just the nicotine. You're going to need way more than 5 days to truly get over that addiction. I would think 18mg would be a good place to start.

You're doing fine RN. I second the idea of having a bottle of 24mg (or 18mg) laying around for when you feel the need.

As far as the equipment goes, play around with what you have, and find out what it can & can't do.
A big problem I see these days is that there are so many choices out there that people just move on to something else instead of learning how to get the most out of what they already have.

Definitely What I have found that helps me since starting and getting away from analogs more and more has been increasing my nicotine levels so I would Suggest something in the 18 range also is your battery Variable Voltage or Wattage? most of the time on EGO batteries that are they have a twist on the bottom if they are. If not what I would suggest if the increase of Nicotine doesnt seem to be doing the trick try looking into either a EGO Twist or Vision Spinner battery (both are variable voltage I personally prefer the Vision Spinner but to each their own) but a combination of these things should definitely get you going again! :)

Oh, something I can advise on..

I smoked 1,5 packs of Marlboro light or light menthols for years too.

A great tip no one mentions (somehow it's forgotton so easy) is this one:

    * On your ego, suck slightly a bit more gentle then on a normal sig, BUT, important is to draw longer too!
So.. softer inhale, but for longer (double, if not triple the time of a normal sigarette)

    * Secondly, if you'd inhale directly whilst drawing on a sigarette, try drawing in smoke in your mouth,
and inhaling it after drawing a little while, this should give you a slightly better result too.

    hope that helps :)

Have you browsed through the Stickies, in particular http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html? You're never going to get that immediate jolt from an e-cig that you get from an analogue - with the right juice for throat hit and a bit of perseverance, using the 4-5sec draw into the mouth and inhale, I was able to enjoy the more gentle, progressive nicotine buzz after a week or so... and I certainly don't miss the horrible taste, aftertaste and stink.

The generic eGo kit you have works fine so give it a try for a couple of weeks before looking at better equipment. The 12mg ejuice is fine for me as a former PAD smoker after getting used to the lack of all the other chemicals in analogue smoke, some of which are nasty and some of which reinforce the addiction. I can only encourage you to keep at it and ride through that initial hump and enjoy the resulting freedom.

I also felt the same way I went up to 24mg and a more powerful MOD(battery) and it did the trick

Welcome Danielle! And I might add, "Hello neighbor!"
I smoked menthols for many years and I've found that I like that sort of 'kick' with my vape as well. Extreme Ice from Mount Baker Vapor seems to hit the spot for me and it's pretty inexpensive. It might be worth a try.
Best of luck to you, and stay warm during this deep freeze!

oh, noticed I forgot to mention.. 12mg was definately enough for me too first time..
I actually started dropping it down after a few weeks passed.

What did take me forever, is to actually find a flavour liquid that said YES BABY to me...
i'm still waiting for that bells ringing, angels flying around, trumpets kind of moment.. but i'm sure there MUST be a flavour out there..
I've had a few come close.. so i'm sure it'll be a fruity/fresh(minty) kind of combo.

Good luck.. and a little withdraw isn't that bad.. if you get through week 1 and you didn't kill anyone.. chances are you're going to do great :)

Your taste in juice will change over time as you get your sense of taste back your taste buds will change several times.

I started with a high nicotine juice and only after a year was down to 12mgs. I smoked about the same amount as you.

Also start to investigate something that will give you a little more oomph. An aspire Nautilus might be right up your alley.

The Aspire atlantis is a super awesome tank but I would suggest trying it out before committing to buy. Unless you already have dreams of blowing giant clouds.

I definitely would recommend picking up some sort of battery with a variable voltage/wattage function. This definitely can increase the hit when you take a drag.

Smoking a pack a day I would suggest starting with 24mg or 18mg nicotine strength, then work yourself down from there.

I have had my innokin MVP2.0 for roughly a year and a half, and still use it. Battery lasts a long time, has an ohm reader, and variable voltage/wattage. It was my step up from a 800mah ego battery. Good luck!

This is good advice, and what I did also. I quit cigarettes a year ago on New Year's Day. Hooray for me (and to you, EmergencyRN for taking the first steps also.)

I started with 12 nic. and it just did not do it for me. I didn't smoke, but I sure wanted to.:) I went up to 18 nic and it was better but still not really comfortable for me. I got some 24 mg and it was perfect. I've been at that level ever since.

I also highly recommend getting the wonderful device called the MVP 2. It is really well made and well designed, and the battery life is super. I have several of them and keep one charged and ready at all times. Good luck to you. If I can do it after smoking heavily for over 40 years, you can, too!

I too agree to start by uping your nic level. Then maybe consider a device that will give you a little more power (MVP, I stick, Etc) and a good clearo (Nautilus/AeroTank, Etc). I kicked a 2 pk/day habit 3 years ago and yes the withdrawal is completely normal. Fortunately now there are a ton of different, good performing options to tailor make your vape experience. You can do it! Part of the journey is experimenting and finding what you enjoy.

Ive been smoking marlboro menthols, and camel menthols, since i was about 16, i used to smoke about 2 packs a day, more if i;m drinking. I was able to quit smoking cold turkey literally after i picked up my first mech mod, with only 6mg, it does the job for me after like 4-5 hits, im good for a couple hours, but everyone has their own tolerance. I guess if you feel you're not getting enough nicotine, maybe try a new setup? I know an ego at 18mg, doesnt give me the same satissfaction as I would from my mech mod at only 6mg but maybe thats just me...
