I got the impression TC is unpopular - but why?

I don't know that TC was ever all that popular so much as it was hyped for a while as the next new thing. For those tanks with pre-made coils, and now pods, TC is typically not an option. For those using rebuild-able tanks (e.g., RDAs) and a mod that does TC well, it's still a desirable way to vape.

Added not so much for you as others who may read the thread. Not everyone is clear in understanding coil temp does not equal vapor temp. I've seen that confusion made before.
Indeed. I have a mod that can vape up to 800°F, and it doesn't burn...

It's a nontraditional atty design... Third rail temp control, with alternative wicking options, for VERY thick materials... Only mentioned due to relevance.

Never heard of that before. While not totally on topic, but close enough, more info would be great. I’d love to know more about it, not to try but for knowledge as it’s new to me.

IDK if TC vaping is so unpopular necessarily other than it's been around for like, a while and folks are either using it or not. I have found, based on m experiments, that with the amount of setups I have TC isn't THAT big a deal for me, unless I'm going somewhere and only taking a few vapes. Otherwise, I really never hit my TC "limit" which is frankly rather puny.

For MTL vaping, it can be a bit harder and most drop in coil tanks don't offer a TC version, you pretty much have to sort of pay attention.

Since I use SS for coils usually, it's nice to have the option-- I guess. Like I said I am no aficionado thought it is useful sometimes. I'm glad you asked the question though, you are getting good info, and that's always helpful.

I start vaping using VW and then for many months used only TC, both mesh and wire coils on various mods including DNA. When using a fresh coil and wick TC worked very well but then flavor would taper off after use....most likely a change of coil resistance due to buildup. I find that VW control is more consistent over a longer period of coil/wick life.
My new Vaporesso Gen mod using their pulse control does seem to imitate the smoothness of TC but with out the dry hit protection.

Hi,

I just tried to TC vaping - and it’s awesome!

it was harder to build the coil, took me couple of tries, but once I reached R of 1.3, everything started to work.
I used 26awg wire SS316L (that’s what they had ready in the store).
I have no dry hits - at all, it’s just perfect. It’s like having on the fly automatically adjusted curve!

I do have one small problem- 1 out of 10 mod firing - (almost) nothing happens.
is it a problem (not good chip/mod, wire, else?), or is it intended? (Coil overheated, wick is dry, else?). But that’s a small nuisance - I wait 10 seconds and wape again no problem.

what I still don’t understand - why I was always told at the stores “don’t TC vape - it’s the old way, now VW is the way to go” without any explanation.
So far I have a feeling that it was done exclusively in stores interest:
- because they know it’s harder to built, so they didn’t want to have a complaining customer “it does not work”, because the mods for tc probably cost more so it’s tougher sell, and they wanted to sell me more coils, wick, juice...

are there other reasons against TC? (Safety, medical reasons (idk - SS wire releases particles or something - seems unlikely (I know with Ti and Ni you should be causious)), else?

I continue to research this topic as well, online, YouTube, etc, but so far I found nothing against, except what I already mentioned (mainly it’s a bit harder to build the coils).

Would appreciate your opinions!

regards,
Vadim

ps. I use EHPRO Cold Steel 100 mod, Siren 2 MTL RTA.
It's popular with the people that like it and unpopular with the people that don't.

It certainly is a lot easier to TC with RBAs than stock coils.

But I also think some of the major companies have been putting a lot more effort into their chips - with regard to accurate TC.

A few years ago, it was only the Evolv DNA chip, Yihi, Dicodes and arctic fox firmware.

Now Vaporesso, Asmodus, Innokin, Geekvape, and plenty of others have come to the party :thumb:
