I just recieved a Goon.

I've only ever tied and used Kanthal coils but I want to try some type of exotic now since there is room for them in this device. What would be a good choice for VW use for my first experience in Clapton, etc.?

I want to at first just buy a premade coil(s) from like Advanced Vapes for this first try.

I have a Battlestar which just arrived as well and I'd also like to try TC mode to see what that is like. What would be a good choice in exotic coils that would work in that mode on that devise?

Thanks!

I have 7 Goon's, and basically the skies the limit with them in that you can run just about any kind of coil build that you want to in them.

The choice would depend on your vaping style, the joose they will run and your personal taste. There will be many choices that will work great for all three. But what works stellar for me may not work for you (I build for the joose). IOW, all of mine have builds specifically for the DIY joose I run in each of them. Almost all of my coils in them right now are dual SS316L, but I have ran a few different types of Claptons, Aliens and Tsuka coils in them in the past.

I don't do TC (never had any interest in it, still don't).

IMO jumping into tc mode using exotic coils is a mistake. There is a learning curve with tc. For tc you want to start out with some simple spaced ss coils until yoi figure out how it works then go from there. Exotic coils might just be frustrating to start with. As far as power mode goes there are quite a few companies that make coils. There are a few builders on here that sell coils. The skies the limit with the Goon.

I have four Goons and keep them in regular rotation. It's just a great and versatile deck to build on and the airflow is just right, IMO. I really CBA with TC these days but I do love me some Ni80 aliens or staples in the Goon. If you're looking to try something other than Kanthal, Ni80 is a safe bet.

I've been all around TC with many different setups on several different attys and mods and I always end up coming back to good old power mode but if you're itching to try TC, my advice would be to get yourself some 24-26 AWG SS 316L round wire and a drill bit, screwdriver or coil jig and wrap yourself a pair of 3mm coils, space them and install. Have a look at Steam Engine for guidance. Set your mod to SS and play around with temps to see what you like.

If you find that you enjoy TC, then move on to some exotics. Some people swear by it. I've always thought it was a little gimmicky but you should be the judge.

I want to thank everyone who responded to my querry.

Right, so I think I'll just start with good ol' regular Kanthal at first and get a feel for this atty before moving on to anything more exotic, just like Don29palms suggested. After that, you guys had some great suggestions for me to try and I'll give that a go at some point I'm sure. I just wanted to see if there was any real difference in flavor given the greater surface area of something like a Clapton.

As for this TC thing, yeah, IDK how useful this mode would actually be in practice but hey, ya gotta try something different once in awhile to keep things interesting, right?

Thanks once again guys, this forum really is a great resource.
